    Looks like its been graffitied!!!!

Lets hope all goes well for NELPG, they have put enough effort into her the past 18 months or so, and deserve a good period of smooth sailing.

K1 arrived at Hellifield with 7 carriages & a 37. Waited for a while then two men with a big hammer & a crowbar came and knocked open the points to get onto the loop.

Taken from NELPG website tonight ...

The K1 left Carnforth today, 10th May, heading north to Fort William to participate in the haulage of this summer's Jacobite service.

Unfortunately, a knock developed on the journey north of Carlisle. The locomotive was examined at Beattock Summit loop where it was decided to return to Carnforth. The locomotive has returned to Carnforth where the defect will be investigated further and repaired.

How come they never capitalise on this 1 way run as a 1 way railtour, with no timing guarantees..? I'd love a ride on ths trip !

That has been asked before John, not sure what the answer was but as you say I would be an interesting run, including being towed back from Beattock by a 37.....

SRPS Railtours done a version of utilising No. 61994 and No. 45231 on a Polmont - Fort William railtour with Class 37 on the return, which acted as a positioning move for the engines last Spring. I'm sure it was asked about this year but it couldn't be confirmed if engines would be available. As seen, it's been very tight for No. 62005 making the start of the Jacobite season, and as far as I'm aware no other engine has went up separately as the 2nd ( No. 61994 is due to go up but no word on a move, and bearing in mind she has the Cath-Ex in a week ).

If it had been used as a railtour this year, i'm sure there would have been complaints of engine failing on Thursday, 37 being tagged on at the rear etc....

Perhaps something to look in to at the end of the season, but especially planning put in place for next year's services.

It was done for years and years and years. In the eighties and early nineties the SRPS sent a tractor and a rake of coaches north for each loco to bring down to Westerton. Then for a few glorious years after privatisation a Highland Steam Festival was held with trips over the West Highland, Oban, Highland and Kyle lines with one run even reaching - Dobbin are you watching? - Wick AND Thurso in 1998. These usually finished with a run south to Oxenholme. The last one I travelled on was in 2004.

Superb, if long days. Why they were discontinued can only be explained by the previous operators, costs? risk? who knows?
