611 shall be going to Spencer, North Carolina to participate in their Streamliners event next month. The event shall be held at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. More funds shall be raised while she is there and the overhaul shall also be performed at the historic Spencer Shops to get her up to Mainline standards. More money needs to be raised so that a shop facility can be erected in Roanoke and so that she may grace the rails for the next 15 years.

Preparations of getting 611 to Spencer are underway with the removal of the main rods and brake tests. The work is being done by Scott Lindsay and Roanoke Chapter of the National Railway and Historical Society(NRHS).

A little while ago I watched the preparation of N&W 611 in South Carolina on the American Trains magazine web cam.

This evening I had the pleasure in seeing her on route hauling a very long train, via a web cam again provided by Trains Magazine. The best view was between Lynchburg (Virginia) and Roanoke ( Virginia) which was her destination, She cruised by looking in fine splendour. The last view I had was via the Roanoke VA web cam: again a great sight to see. Quite a lot of people turned out to see her arrive and the local police or township closed some adjacent roads which was quite sensible.
