British Export Trains

    I've started a brand new Flickr group entitled British Export Trains. As the title suggests it is for photos of locos/trains/equipment etc. exported from Britain for use in other countries. Some of the subjects have now been repatriated.
    We already have members and contributors from all over the world.
    It's fascinating to look at the locos exported and often now preserved. Some of them are almost copies of BR locos.
    Check out the Drewry shunters.
    The preserved Kitson-Meyer articulated loco preserved in Chile is something else! Of course, plenty of Garretts.

    I saw that Kitson a few years ago in Santiago, and as you say what a fantastic loco, what that must have been like working.........

    You will notice that the connecting rods on the left hand end are different, this loco was designed for extreme gradients and that end of the loco powered the rack.

    Just look at some of the figures, 150 miles climbing to over 10,000 feet, one section of 10 miles at an average gradient of 1:13.
