I'm thinking about visiting the East Lancs on Saturday - I was wondering how much it is possible to see - is the engine shed open for visitors?

as far as i am aware the the elr will be open and running however the locomotive sheds, and c and w sheds are usually off limits to visitors for health and safety reasons, however if you get intouch with the railway some one may be available to give you a tour esspecially if you are thinking of becoming a volunteer working member. the Castle croft Goods shed museum should be open the entrance of which is located in the corner of the car park oposite Bury Bolton st station, also that is where you will find the gift shop and information/enquiries office.

Have attached this request on the end of this thread as it seemed pointless to start another one.

I'm considering visiting the ELR this Sunday (24th July) and wondered if anyone knows which three locos (2 steam 1 diesel?) are planned to be running - if so does everything steam-wise face Rawtenstall at present?

    Thanks in advance!

I expect 80080 and 45407 will be the kettles, they are both facing norf. No idea what the diesel will be. I'll reply on here if I get confirmation whats running.

As per ELR web-site scheduled steam locos are 132 Sapper & 80080 - both are chimney facing Rawtenstall.
Diesel diagrammed is 20087 which is bonnet facing Rawtenstall.
With regard to diagrams the ELR has a Sunday lunch train which loads to 8 coaches (4 Diner) and requires the use of 80080. This service is the 1.10pm ex-Bury to Rawtenstall.

45407 departed ELR last Monday for York & some Scarborough work.

Also.... How does the Santa special work at the ELR?
The time table suggests it shuttles back and forth between bury and Ramsbottom with connection services a t either end, is this the case ? and if so what Motive power is on the shuttles... please.
