    No real reason for posting this apart from it's an image from my new-ish scanner and a little thank you to a certain gang of engine cleaners as well as trying out the new forum!

    Wonderful and evocative stuff - some of the point - shoot - upload merchants should be made to consider the composition, industrial archeology content, capturing of the times - that went into those shots

    You had a 1966 copy of Decline of Steam no doubt!

    I did get one actually, but only two years ago! My namesake and I were into all that stuff but not as eloquently! It's what came naturally. My influence was Bill Brandt - as far as In know, he only took one railway picture - a steam train crossing Dean Street viaduct in the 1930s, backlit and very 'dark'.

    More of "after the after" shot. It was much cleaner than the "before" shot. And - much cleaner than the norm. The lads did go home now and then to their mammies!
