Poking around Crewe Heritage Centre on Tuesday, I was suprised to see number 9 in quite so many bits - the front tubeplate seems to have been cut up, and a patch is needed at the bottom of both sides of the firebox. Does anyone know how long she will be laid up for, or what the 'ticket' situation is?

She's undergoing a full 10 yearly overhaul in readiness for a new main-line ticket.
How long this overhaul will take depends on what needs renewal, replacement, etc. and if any 'surprises' arise during the work. By the looks of it Steve Latham, and his team at Crewe, is doing a very thorough job for the owner Mr John Cameron. Can't wait for more scintillating tours once No. 9 returns to steam!
