At Havenstreet we are finding it increasingly difficult to source traditional slotted steel or brass woodscrews (particularly steel), does anyone know of a reliable supplier?
As so many of our screw heads remain visible we simply do not want to use cross head screws.

Have you tried Screwmonger in Newark? They have supplied me in the past after others ran out.

Try F P Hertings in Southall, Hertings.com. Used to be absolutely brilliant. According to their website do a good range of steel, brass and chrome slotted screws.

    Gary,
About three years ago I was travelling into London, picked up one of those mind numbing free magazines on a train, some article about restoring London houses and builders contacts. So I tried one,Clerkenwell Screws Ltd, 020 7405 6504 (Clerkenwell Road just off Gray's Inn Road 15" from Kings X Station)."I thought here we go again "Do you have brass domehead slotted No 8s 1 3/4" "how many do you want" "how much are they" so went the conversation. and out came the book with all the tables. The assistant disappeared down corridors of shelves filled with cardboard boxes of ironmongery until the required screws were found . There's a counter (remember them?) to stop the customer wandering around!. 200 quantity, made in Hong Kong., as told we don't make them anymore in the UK - I can believe him. Money to be paid by credit card but the invoice was written out by hand in full " Paid with Thanks". As I left guys from a construction site queued up M20s or something like that. Worth a try. Hoping they are still there

Thanks for all the replies, some very interesting possibilities to follow up. One problem that we are increasingly noticing is you look at the website which lists a massive range of types and sizes. Until you try to order anything, Oh sorry that size is out of stock and that one as well. You ask when will they be in stock? We can't get them anymore. But they still list them as available!
We will be overjoyed to find a company that does what it says on the website!

We have used www.seascrew.com for stainless steel slotted, seem very good with large range.
    Cheers

I bought some slotted head brass screws from Tool Station a couple of weeks ago with no problem. They list quite a lot on their website although I only wanted No.8's. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Screws+Fixings/Brass+Screws/d90/sd820 According to their branch locator, they have a depot on the IOW.
