Much has been said, and many photo's taken of Mallard and her sisters. We all know who the crew were and when driver Duddington retired, aged 67 in 1944. Does anyone know when he and his fireman passed away and where they might be buried. It does not seem as if their exploits have a suitable high profile memorial (apart from Mallard that is).

I believe Joe Duddington died in 1950 in Doncaster.

In late October last year I had to visit York St. John's University for their Degree awards ceremonies. As I was there for three days and knew the big A4 re-union was still ongoing I naturally made a visit to the NRM a 'must do'.

I have seen Union of South Africa and Bittern when they visited the Paignton & Datrmouth SR which left the other four unaccounted for. I was pleased to see Sir Nigel Gresley and naturally Mallard and the two ex pats. I principally wanted to see Dominion of Canada and Dwight. D. Eisenhower as through my large scale modeling I have many friends in both Canada and Wisconsin. Being a life long GWR guy it was nice to appreciate what the other British railways had to offer. ;)
