Why does expressing a contrary opinion to yours make one a big mouth - after all what you have posted in this thread is merely your opinion, impossible to back up with fact, the most glaring example of which is your assertation that the average non enthusiast visitor to any railway will have seen photos of that railway in a publication aimed at said enthusiast.

This may be the attitude of some Frank, but please don,t tar everyone with the same brush please.

I value the patronidge of photters very much, so much that I am more than happy to get up early on photoshoot days and welcome the guys with a cup of tea and use of the messroom facilities as other will concur.

There is something for everyone in preservation and without these guys publicising the restoration work that we do , preseved Railways would be a poorer place.

To be constructive, instead of whinging, (for want of a better word) on this forum would your comments not be better directed at the Mid-Hants management?. Far better to get a change of policy from them than someone on this forum wouldn,t you say?.

    Regards
    Chris

Agreed totally Mitchell. We all have two ears one mouth for a reason so that we listen more than we talk.

I tried to find the answer to this. As far as I can tell for the UK there might be one death since 2000. The chap who fell off the platform at Alresford after getting off a train and then attempting to get back on when the train was already departing. I couldn't find any other accidents in the ORR statistics that could be described as involving enthusiasts/photters. The on-line statistics only go back a few years though.

    Cheers

Oh dear - I haven't been at my laptop for four hours in CCT Man's life and have thereby incurred his wrath

    Woe is me!

I have made my point - the tone of the MHR response is about ten to one negative.

Until that stance becomes more customer friendly it won't be me losing custom or looking churlish.

Off to learn how to walk now \:D/

Yes you have made your point Frank although what comes across is that the only pont is yours and that a second opinion is iut of the question.

Then of course I could be wrong?

I think you meant "point" and "out" - just correcting your mistooks - again.

    Best Regards

I think everybody already knows that getting whacked by tons of metal is not good for you. This thread as I read it, is more about a different parameter in a risk assessment, probability.

    Cheers

Over a long period of time everyone has talked about the line side ban at the MHR. What about Swanage Railway they have the same policy regarding line side trespassing and they don’t seem to get them same amount of bad feed back has the MHR does on this forum. Why is this for? Is the MHR fair game compared to other preserved railways on this subject?
Does anyone know of any other preserved railways that don’t allow people to go line side?

Probably because Swanage doesn't go around posting pictures of people on the internet without their permission and taking the p*ss out of people giving constructive suggestions, basically they gave people the ammunition to "have a go" so to speak.

On Sunday 28th June, trespassers on the Pembroke Dock line contributed a big chunk (NR responsible for the rest) to the 70013 tour's late running, which apparently reached 108 minutes at its worst. They were standing on the trackbed taking head-on shots FCS!

I think every private line should be allowed to have what policy they like, but if that policy is "yes", then, imho, anyone wanting lineside clearance should be personally vouched for by a member of the society that runs the line, a bit like joining a golf club. Of course that would mean inconvenience for the photter, but it would also make the society members consider each case very carefully, which must be a good thing.

send it to the local newspaper as well.

btw, this is one of the reasons that IMHO linesiders should be given access. He is not going to get very far with lots of photters around without being admonished.

Yes I am an active volunteer
I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing when I filmed it! I couldn't work out where they would have come from, the only thing being that they appeared to be cycling alongside the line to start with before moving to the middle of it. I would like to think that if the train had passed by them before they got to the crossing they would have got a VERY big telling off from one of the loco crews on either 43106 or 45379 and had their details taken and passed on to the appropriate people.
