Really motoring through Godstone, Tangy working hard but so was the 37, still those in Super Standard should. Have enjoyed the sound track.

Remember that Tangmere's owner is "very close" to the people that run West Coast. I think we can safely assume that WCRC are well aware of her mechanical condition, and that her owner is kept well informed of all that goes on concerning her. The recent assistance that she's been getting makes me think that WCRC and her support crew have concerns about her condition and are "nursing" her until she can get back to Carnforth for a few weeks maintenance. I hope they do a thorough job. Tangmere is going to be very busy next year, by the look of things.

I personally dont have anything against 34067, im just playing devils advocate by posting what those who would rather be rid of steam would say, in which case they would say 34067 stopped here and caused X delay minutes, they woulden't care what the reason behind the problem was sadly.

You are quite right - there is probably nothing wrong with Tangmere but after the incident on 11/11 it is inevitable that no-one is taking any chances. If it stalled then with 10 coaches then taking a 12 coach train up the same route would need some insurance. We can't afford any more mishaps on the main line right now. The problem is that adding a diesel to the back of the train means the load is effectively 14 so unavoidably the diesel with have to give a shove when needed. Now I don't like diesels any more than the rest of you but it was a no-brainer that there would be one on the back today - hence I avoided this trip.

Back from a decent day out behind 34067 & 37685. I have no complaints about the 37 being on the back with problems encountered on the run in November, or the fact it would need to assist due to the load around 15 coaches on certain parts of the route. However even when we were running early, on the level, the 37 was still wide open! It was still a good day out and the assistance won’t put me off travelling in the future.

The diesel was not pushing as Tangmere climbed past Selhurst, but the diesel driver was staring at his watch, maybe the orders were to push only if things seem to fall behind time.
Perhaps in order to restore trust in both 34067 and of course WCRC.
Whatever the reason's, here's my video at Selhurst, lovely blue skies and exhaust. White Cliffs Circular, 34067 Tangmere, passing Selhurst, 22/12/2011. - YouTube

I was on the train today in Super Standard which meant the front of the train. However, My coach was the last coach which earned me compensation from Steam Dreams, so hats off to them.
I think I can say that I was quite aware of when the 37 was working and when it wasn't. As previously mentioned by the fact that it was there meant it would have to give the odd shove. Knowing what a 37 sounds like at full thrash, we had nowhere near that today. There was a lot of shoving in the London suburbs when accelerating away from signal checks and assistance on most occasions throughout the day when we were starting away from stops and from speed restrictions regardless of timekeeping. There was a lot of help up Martin Mill until we were well into the climb when the 37 eased off. It also, of course, came through Shakespeare tunnel but we did have two Met Cam Pullmans with inward opening doors.

The class 37 certainly gave Tangmere a shove at Penshurst after the water stop. Its on my video on you tube. 34067 Tangmere, Penshurst, 22/12/2011 - YouTube
Its a great idea to put some diesel traction on the back, anything to keep the tour to time and so provide no excuse for steam to be banned, however wholesale use of growlers
to push these services should not be encouraged. Crews wont know how to control slip, and engines wont be seen working at their best.
