The NNR tweeted earlier that the B1 was out on test today.

Prior to its sale 61306 was using BR Mark 1 BSK 35457 as its support coach. It has been confirmed that this was not included in the sale. Does anyone know what has happened to this carriage and where it is now located? The most recent reports I had were of it being seen on the M1 and M6 in early June.

It was heading to the ELR. Not sure why or what has happened to it since.

Can we start another thread about Class 50s? This one is supposed to be about (6)1306.

Nice to see 61306 out and about. I saw it more times than I care to remember when it was at Dairycoates.

I was at the NNR Gala today and had a ride behind Mayflower double headed with the B12, a fantastic sight/experience.

Unfortunately, it would appear 61306 was failed towards the end of the day. From what I heard, something to do with either the firebox door or the smokebox door.
What I know for certain is the last working of 76084 back to Holt was meant to be non-stop but stopped at Weybourne having towed failed 61306 from Sherringham.

The rumors circulating said it should be a simple fix, but would need to allow the engine to cool first. Make of that what you will.

When it comes to Washwood Heath even I get a bit confused as to who is who and which locomotives are under whose care, let alone who is the legal owner.

My understanding is that both Boden Rail Engineering and RMS Locotec (BAR subsidiary) are located on the site. One of the two leases the areas used by both from the site owner and subleases the area used by the other to them. The two companies work closely together but are separate. Boden does a lot of work for Colas whilst RMS Locotec do a lot for DCR but both do work on their own locomotives as well as those of individuals associated with the companies and others.

When 61306 was owned by the Bodens it was operated on the national network by DCR. Neil Boden is I understand a qualified driver who drives for DCR on a part-time casual basis. This emphasising the close relationship between the various parties.

It was failed as a precaution today.

It was only due to work another half trip so nothing was really missed.
Upon further investigation, under the cab floor which could not be done at Sheringham, the initial cause of concern was found not to be the case.

61306 was not operated on the mainline by DCR as they don't have an operating license for steam, it may have been dragged by a DCR loco but under its own power was West Coast.

I seem to remember that Mr Bowden told WCR that he would be driving 61306 on the mainline to be kindly told to F off!

Apart from a loaded test run, carried out under WCRC auspices, it hasn't worked a train on the national network so DCR involvement doesn't really come into the equation.

So does it remained to be seen whether she will do any rail tours?

My understanding is that DCR don't have a passenger licence for steam - they can work L/E/ECS and have done so (I suspect many of their moves of steam are diesel hauled due to driver route knowledge and to minimise water stops - DBS have worked in a similar manner).

The one DCR l/e move I've seen was 60163 being hauled by a DCR 56. Not much of a licence though if you can't work a pax.

I was told a few years ago about a light engine move with 60163 by DCR on the ECML being stopped because another TOC had reported it (wrongly) as an illegal move...

I thought that this might change after this move. At least she will be getting good use at Sherringham.

Does 61306 have all the electronic gubbins necessary for running on the big railway? A lot of expense if it doesn't get used.

It did a loaded test run out of Carnforth so I assume all the boxes of electronic tricks would have been present for that.

Bit sad some TOC's have nothing better to do than snoop and make wrong assumptions...

Or......the other TOC was trying to maintain safety on the network by reporting what it believed was an illegal (possibly dangerous) move.
