    This locomotive is on the market, though this may well be old news for some. I just hope that it finds a good home. (pity that the UK loading gauge is so miserable)

    Been for sale for a while. Fantastic loco, shame she hasn't seen a lot of use since being overhauled.

    Bit more info about the loco and support coach here. £800k for fully operational loco and coach with possible European wide use seems very good.

    Wasn't the GCR built to European loading gauge? :D

    And would any ex broadgauge be any good?

    Actually the GCR "London Extension" was built to a Continental European loading gauge. what it wasn't built to was the Berne Convention Gauge
    as this was not ratified till 1912 and the London extension was opened in 1899.

    Oh dear, the Great Central continental load gauge myth still rumbles on. GC (and Met Rly) load gauges were on the generous side at approximately 9' over cylinders and 13' - 3" over chimneys etc - but that is as far as it goes. Track spacing and platform clearances along with height of overbridges from rails little different to any other UK lines with the possible exception of former GWR broad gauge lines. If one goes to the GCR at Loughborough just how much (or rather, how little) clearance between locos etc and overbridges can readily be seen in the loco shed area. Even a French Nord 4-6-0 of 1910 is too big in profile to run on the GCR.
