Fires can be started by loco's slipping ,that is wheel to rail. I was on a tour in New Zeeland a couple of years ago, when a oil burning steam loco' started a small fire this way, the train was stopped and the fire put out. Also diesel loco's at the start of diesel traction weren't cleaned underneath all that well ,sparks from slipping caused the grease to catch fire .A 47 on a Lindsey to Langley oil train caught fire on the climb from Harringworth to Corby in the middle of the night, during the 1980s after a bout of slipping. A mate of mine in the fire brigade was called out ,on this occasion it was quite near to a road so the fire was easily put out.
The very next night the same thing happened again, at first they thought it was a false alarm ,someone having them on ,but this time it happened nowhere near a road.
A platelayers trolley was commandeered to take fire fighting equipment thro'Corby tunnel to the then blazing 47.
The loco' stood in the sidings for sometime at Kettering ,aright mess.

Thanks Chris. Correct reports, having just seen the 8F at Armathwaite. 37 doing a lot of the work on the back, but there was still some exhaust from the 8F doing a bit of work.

Sir Ian Botham was a passenger on today's train and tweeted photo of Batty Moss viaduct taken from a rear coach this morning. Hope Beefy appreciated the Growler! (A joke for Northern pie connoisseurs)

I looked at that shot and thought what's he on about, then realised that some of the picture was off the RHS side of my screen, scrolled across and ah that's the answer... Nice.

    It's at Stainforth I think.

Nice shot, and I didn't get the 'double chimney' bit 'til Ralph guided me in the 'right' direction!

Its opposite the Watermill shopping complex on the Settle - Ribblehead road; after passing the (signed) Watermill [on the left] pass under the railway and take the right hand turn noting it's a narrow road / lane. Continue for a couple of hundred yards and the road turns shapely left; there is a gate to the field on the right hand side. Park [where you can !!] and go through gate onto field and pick your spot.

Have you two got your screen resolution set right?
It's at Langcliffe just outside Settle.
