I have seen nothing that indicates where it may end up nor who the purchasor is . LRGWLG have said nothing and the other group vying to buy the engine also indicate they do not know

Would seem rather ironic if its true given they dismembered 2861....

it was in the early hours of the morning and I may have got it wrong or even dreamt it but I thought I read somewhere (and I can't find it) that a group of Didcot members had bought it. Sorry if I'm proved wrong (senile) :)

On Facebook it seems to suggest that the 2859 group who were trying to buy it are Didcot (town not Railway Centre) based, perhaps this is where confutation has arisen....

Anyway, I'm delighted that this loco has been purchased by a group who seem to have the funding to buy it (that's the cheap bit of course!) and that restoration on it may soon start. Two things that I've heard about 2859 that members might be able to confirm are:
    1. It was the last loco to be overhauled at Wolverhampton works and
    2. It has a very sound boiler which was one reason why the 2857 Group looked at it but bought 2857 by mistake! (The latter probably an urban myth).

Perhaps explains why GWS have not been given 2818?

Both have elements of truth. 2859 was the last locomotive overhauled through Stafford road works in Wolverhampton, and for this reason was of interest to what then became the 2857 society, due to there being a strong Wolverhampton contingent in the society. However there was a case of mistaken identities at the time as to whether it was '57 or' 59 which was the last locomotive which went through. We ended up with '57, about which I will not be caught complaining, but I'd happily admit to a soft spot for '59 since becoming aware of its story. It's always been my "euro millions loco" as a result.

You weren't dreaming! November's Railway Magazine dropped through my letterbox today and it confirms the story. There were three separate bids and the loco changed hands for £38.000. No details were given of the identity of the buyer(s) who intend(s) to start work on restoring the engine to working order "soon". At the same time, the sale is good news for another loco inasmuch as the owning group also own small prairie 5532 and the money paid now means that 70% of the amount needed for the boiler repairs is now in the bank.

New SR arrived today, confirms who the new owner is and suggests that she is firstly heading to Cheshire, no mention of Didcot.

Thank you, for me to provide the information would have involved me getting up and walking into the other room to pick up SR. :) I do recall from my initial skim read that the guy has some history with traction engines.

Wish her new owner all the best!
