Anyone know why George Stephenson is going to be run in at Loughborough instead of NYMR ? Perhaps their are plans for her to go mainline ?

I have absolutely no idea but 44767 has been a main line loco in the past. Perhaps the owner wants a more gentle running in period than it would get on the Moors with all those steep gradients and curves.

I think I am right in saying that at the NYMR this winter there is a major bridge replacement taking place. I don't think that 44767 will be doing any mainline work for the next few years.

That is correct, Bridge 30 is being replaced, but I 'm not sure what relevance it has to 44767! Whilst the line is severed the NYMR northern operations of the NYMR will be on the Esk Valley line, but I think that they are due to be complete and the line reopened by Easter. As for 44767, I believe the plan is to fit the equipment to allow it to run on the EVL (only) next winter, in the meantime it is going elsewhere to earn the money to pay for the equipment.

I remember seeing 44767 and I think 80080 in West Wales hauling the first steam into Fishguard since 1964 in 1993. Will be nice to see it again.

Well done to Ian & his team for getting 44767 where it is. It'll be nice to see it back in service.

Its valve gear always intrigues me though, compared to Walschaerts! :)

The GCR website makes no mention of this. Please could you add in some detail?

Last Steam Railway carried the story I think, but haven't got the copy with me to check, it suggests several Black 5's will congregate on the GCR over winter/spring, I think 44767 is listed as one of them. Harold.

Quoted as 44767, 45231 and 45305. I had heard this rumoured from within the GCR prior to reading about it in 'Steam Railway', neither of which confirms whether or not it is true, of course!

It was the article in Steam Railway that drew my attention to 44767,s move . They said that the tender was due to arrive anytime .
I have fond memories of her working on the Moors , so I hope she will be at Grosmont sometime next year working alongside Eric Treacy .

I dont think anything is set in stone by a long shot, but the need to get the engine up and running properly is understandable. There is also the consideration of making a good start on getting some money back on the overhaul and the enxt one, which dosnt happen when its stood still. Motive power wise the moors has quite an interesting 18 months 2 years ahead of it and I feel fairly confident 44767 will feature at some point.

If 44767 is to be finished while the Bridge 30 work is going on it makes perfect sense to go to the GCR, much more practical for running-in than trying to do it on the NYMR without access to Grosmont, and with the opportunity to do some high speed tests as well.

I don't see what Steam Railway magazine has to do with this story, other than reporting it?
