Ah - if only it were possible to extend the already borrowed time to 2nd May = so near and yet so far :Arghh:

Ten days... surely a boiler inspector would be prepared to be sufficiently flexible to allow that?

Anyway, where is it actually going once its ticket expires, given that Fife council explicitly denied planning permission for locomotives to be stored on the farm?

Why? If your car’s MoT expired on 22/04, would you expect the garage who carried it out and your insurance company to allow you to keep driving for another ten days without going through another inspection?

Why do you refer to that date? The GB 2020 trip around the Fife Circle (vice Oban) is on April 20.

Now that would be a fitting finale , And assuming the plan is still to place it in a museum in Scotland it could go into storage in the area pending a move later.

General usage of a motor vehicle is not exactly comparable to the end (for the foreseeable future) of the 80+year working life of an iconic locomotive... and in any case, if my car's MoT had expired ten days ago, it would be lawful to drive it (as long as it was not in a dangerous condition) to the garage for repair and/or MoT testing. Since I cannot imagine No9's condition deteriorating markedly in the space of just ten days...

I don’t believe the allowable exemptions for driving a car without an MoT include “hauling a full load of people on a tourist excursion”; nor do I believe the allowable exemptions to having a boiler certificate include “it’s old and iconic”.

It does happen. I can think of two occasions of Sentinel steam waggons having a 'one-day' certificate granted after expiry of the boiler certificate (subject to inspection), in order to take part in their late owner's funerals, the most recent being July last year.

Extensions to boiler certificates are quite possible under the Pressure Systems Regulations. However, I don't think Network Rail requirements have that luxury.

I am well aware that John Cameron is retiring the great A4 Pacific "shortly" but I can't easily find out how many trains on the main line are still scheduled to be hauled by it except for the 7th March run to/from York, which I gather it will only head northwards.

My first query is: is it going to do more?

My second: In view of the continuing problems that JC is suffering with regard to his proposed museum, will no. 9 be available to work on preserved lines for some time and, if so, has there been any announcement as to which ones.

I do hope the engine isn't going to disappear altogether like the K4.

1 - possibly - however no announcement made

    2 - no announcement made

3 - K4 is safe in the museum at Bo'ness

There is some talk here on NP that 60009 is to work the CME on 28 March - but nothing official, I think.

It was the SR magazine that have reported it. I'm assuming at some point No9 will move from York to Carnforth after completing the outbound leg on the Yorkshireman, if that happens I think it's a strong signal that N09 is down for the 28/3 WCME !

The 22/23 April is the end of the extended 10 year boiler ticket so doubtful that any further extension will be granted.

There is already a thread for 60009 so do we really need another?

It would be sad if No.9's farewell was NOT in Scotland.

While Fife would be nice it's a shame the ticket expires before what could have been a much more fitting finale.

I have a feeling that dispensation for one trip only could be granted but it may depend on whether it is requested. Personally I would prefer an Edinburgh - Aberdeen round trip to be the finale thus saying a joint farewell to A4s, A4s on the ECML and A4s at work in Scotland. Am I just being a tad patriotic ?
