If this is as good as the first book, we are in for a treat, on sale now.

Glad to see he's looking so well after that horrendous fall... here's hoping he's enjoying his "retirement"..we owe him an awful lot....

Read it cover to cover on the trip from Orlando to LA, well worth buying in my view.

No I do not currently volunteer
My copy arrived from Waterstones yesterday. I started reading a couple of chapters last night after having a quick skim through. The chapter about the footplate crews for the high speed run in the West Country in 1995 is very good.

I was on that run so that bit would make interesting reading.

I, along with several others from the Swanage Railway footplate grades, also travelled on that trip. We were in the rear coach - and no diesel at the back!
Recognising Driver Barnett [ex-Marylebone] at Exeter St Davids would be at the controls I mentioned to our group that we might be in for a good run.
Never realised that it would prove to be a VERY good trip indeed.
The loud, echoing applause under the overall roof at Bristol Temple Meads certainly brought a shiver to my spine!

That cover photograph triggered a few memories of the move from York to Dereham in June 2014. This was how the K4's tender looked on arrival at Wymondham:(. We swept it clean as we approached the junction where the Mid-Norfolk guys took over. The A4 fared not much better but had enough coal left to get down the branch.

Must try to get acopy of the book
