Interesting! I was searching on '6024'.

I'm surprised the society decided to support these two members as doing so would effectively cause the demise of the society, but there you go.

Does anyone know if the water wagon is likely to run with 6024 again or could it see use with other locos ?

So the lesson here, which might be well learned by a few thread contributors, is to engage brain before keyboard and avoid making claims of improper behaviour no matter how justified you think they might be at the time. It seems to me that rather a lot of money has been transferred out of the preservation movement and into the well-stuffed pockets of lawyers in some well publicised legal cases over the years. Perhaps even more disastrous than the money is the ensuing rancour and bad feeling that will inevitably ensue. Large chunks of peoples lives get lost in these court cases. I'm sure as a result of these high profile events people who were once good friends or cordial working colleagues are no longer talking to each other or find it very difficult to work together on common causes and everyone has lost out - except the lawyers.

Which is exactly why I made the point that in future I hope people will put the locomotives first and not their own self interests - that is aimed at ALL parties by the way.
Anyway - looking forward, the next milestone will be getting a boiler certificate extension for 6024. Then we might get to see both King Edwards on the mainline - maybe even a double header over the Devon Banks!!

For 6024 its a very good outcome - charity law being what it is, any funds donated to the new trust specifically for 6024 would have to be used for its upkeep, so all 6024's supporters can carry on funding the loco, whilst having a means of clearing this sword of damacles that has been hanging over it. I recall from Heritage Railway some suggestion that the 6024 group have taken a lease on a building at Bristol Barrow Hill, presumably as the intended base for the immediate future, but presumably it will also be available as a servicing base for the other trust locos when working from Bristol, so maybe a mini steam shed in the west country. (Just as I move to a new job back in Bristol as well - not sure I can do much in a lunchhour though!).

(To clarify given the topic in question, my username implies an interest in 6024, not that I have any direct involvement with its custodians - my comments are therefore just my ramblings and not official!)

I would think that this is a fantastic outcome for all those involved with 6024, its just a shame that it had to happen in the first place.

One hopes that those who took the action they did can sleep well at night as if the figures are correct it is inconceivable that this amount of money left the movement to fund a libel case that served the self interest of some over and above the piece of history with which they were entrusted.

The society are very lucky that Hoskings is letting them keep hold of the running of the engine and if I was in the society I would want the perpatrators held to account. I am surprised someone so successful and wealthy (Hoskings) would entrust the individuals concerned with running the financial affairs of the engine after this debacle.

Hopefully the society can regain its feet and KE1 has a strong future on the mainline.

Actually I'm astonished about the lack of comment! A major part of the British railway preservation movement has gone bust in very dodgy circumstances and everybody just stands back! It's a pity that the 6024 Preservation Society didn't cut the libellers off from the society immediately, issue a full apology for the material in the house mag and then move on. Instead they stood by the libellers and then paid the costs. Utterly amazing!

As to your comments re lawyers couldn't agree more.

    Regards

Quite right too. Its very easy for third parties to make a bad situation worse and almost impossible for them to make it better. Just ask anyone who's had their car stopped by the police and than had their passenger join in the conversation...

'Gone bust' may not be entirely accurate but it appears that, in order to meet their financial liabilities, 6024 Preservation Society Ltd. have had to sell their locomotive.

AFAIK, the Society has voted to sell the locomotive in order to secure its future on the mainline and its next overhaul. My feeling at the last EGM was that this was the No. 1 consideration for the membership, namely the future operation on the engine.

Although that was the main reason where else would they of got the money from? IMO they made the best of a bad situation.

6024 was actually a very well run society and generated a good cash flow to support the engine . Whilst nothing is forever it is sad that a few printed words have caused the society to have to sell the engine to settle debts .

The debt preservation owes to Mr Hosking and his willingness to not only acquire the engine but also let the outgoing owning group continue to operate and support the engine is something for everyone to be grateful for

Can I just point out again, the primary reason for agreeing to sell the locomotive is to fund its overhaul & continued use on the mainline.
Even if the legal case hadn't occured, the same decision would most likely have been taken.

Ok I will ask again. Where else would the money of come from to pay the legal bill? That is a genuine question just curious.

As Martin (Sidmouth) says though how sad it is that an engine has to be sold to pay for a few printed words a real shame. Mr Hoskin and the Royal Scot trust should be congratulated in giving us further chance to see 6024 where it belongs on the mainline.

I think th moral in this instance is...............

If you think it, don't say it,
If you do say it, don't write it down,
If you do write it down, bin it,don't publish it.

I think The Crimson Pirate has stated above that if the "few printed words"/legal case had not occurred the loco will still have probably been sold to fund it's overhaul & safeguard it's future on the main line.
