Same info i have been told about the piston and that the test has been cancelled . What a great shame as a lot of hard work has gone into this .

Hard luck guys - just what any restoration team can do without, just as they think the hard work is over and the earning can begin.

Let's just wait for the detail as to what is required - at what cost and complexity.

Here's a couple of shots of Britannia during a happier part of the day on both the outward and return legs of the short hop from Crewe to Warrington and back:

Good to have a chat with Neil and Ralph but sorry to hear of the later problems. Best of luck to LNW in getting it sorted.

I suspect there's an obvious answer but I wonder why they went to Warrington and not Chester where there is a triangle to turn on.

My video from yesterday morning at Warrington Bank Quay. Had hoped to include a shot of the afternoon run to Carnforth but arrived at my spot to find she had passed some 25 minutes early. A great credit to the restoration team, and hopefully the problem will soon be fixed and she can start performing on the mainline.

Yes I noticed that as well Stuart, seems that it's not only the loco that has been having work done... Can't have a tatty support coach with an immaculate loco.

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

My sources tell me that its not the piston that is broken. It is actually the piston gland packing, hence the steam wooshing out of the RHS cylinder in this video which I found on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecezI_Qe5nU

I doubt they would have wanted to move a loco with a broken piston without taking the connecting rod off.

Best of luck to the chaps at Crewe, no doubt they'll get the loco back to full health in no time!

That makes sense, and let's hope that that is all it is. Didn't SG suffer a packing failure earlier this year?

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

if it had been the piston , the engine would have been failed there and then and connecting rod removed before she would have been moved , piston glands blowing is not anything new, and im sure that Crewe and Carnforth will endure that when she does take her loaded test she will be 100 per cent right.
Is she returning to Crewe for the work to be done, or will it be done at Carnforth?

I am pretty sure it is 6201's support coach No. 35465.

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

The coach belonged to LNWR, 6201 was using it. LNWR have since sold it for use with 70000.

6201 has been running with a maroon coach on its last few trips.
