Would be nice for any potential Swanage to Wareham steam services too if anyone down south has deep pockets.

Cheers Pete, my mistake. Was it 77 or 80 Lower Darwen too which made Barry?

I was under the impression the N2 would be ready for the 2018 Cromer services, with 76084 having recently run the last of 2017. It was never stated as such, but I always thought the N2 was the replacement for 76084. With '84's owning group being Northern based, always thought the eventual aim would be for it to head back up North.

Personally would love to see 76084 stay in Norfolk.

The perfect engine for Swanage Railway. Would go nicely with 31806 for full Wareham steam services.

Benefactor anywhere with a Swanage soft spot? :)

No worries, as I said I am embittered having failed to secure three off that list for ELR years back.

I'm curious to know which three of the locos on your list were ever available to be acquired for the ELR - I can only see 44806 and 75029 that were ever offered on the open market.

Given that Mr JH was known to have sounded out the 4MT tank owning groups recently, I'm not betting against his making a bid for this one instead.

The subject of this thread about a dozen years ago, the owners were looking for investment. It was also considered at the time it previously changied hands when stored at Retford but we couldnt get a deal done.

"No worries, as I said I am embittered having failed to secure three off that list for ELR years back."

Would you have felt differently if all three had gone to different homes, though? And however much you may resent the NYMR getting them, at least all three have run prolonged periods there and will not be out of traffic for long when they require overhaul (I believe that a condition of the donation for 75029 and 44806 was that they would not spend long periods OOU) - could the same be said if they had gone to the ELR?

Now, now. Embittered does not mean or imply resentment specifically toward the NYMR does it.

The ELR is playing host to City of Wells, so you don't lose them all, I know quite a few would have been delighted had it settled on the NYMR.

Thank you, I have no resentment of NYMR. As I said upthread, good luck to them, I was simply jealous in a partisan way. No criticisms intended or implied.

How likely is it that 76084 will change ownership?

There are always people around who have deep pockets and would like to own an engine so I think the chances are good of it changing hands, but I would imagine it will depend whether the shares on offer will buy a controlling interest and if the purchaser then has to buy out the remaining shareholders. I can't see anyone want to buy close to a controlling interest and with it the possibility of being left with no say in what the engine subsequently does!

Quite so, I wasn't complaining. Still at least 3:1 in Moors favour though!

Always thought the Std 4 moguls are very handsome, powerful looking engines for their size.

Agreed...the Rev Audrey might easily have dubbed them 'really useful engines.'

It's a shame 76080 was one of the few engines cut up at Barry.
