Reading the link answered a question I was going to ask - what shore supply voltage does this need in the absence of the 25kV?

I found a couple of slightly ropey photos I took when 89 001 was being constructed at Crewe, many moons ago… I can scan and upload here if anyone's interested (they're not the best quality!).

Classes 89, 90, 91 were designed with all auxiliary machines, battery chargers, etc being run from a 230V winding on the main transformer. Hence with an amount of additional wiring to the appropriate busbar we have been able to rig up a shore supply to run various equipment though obviously such things as the compressors and blowers can only be run individually and for a short time.

Please do. The ACLG has been able to obtain some pictures of the bogies under construction/being assembled and various images of the basic body being manufactured (in the fab shop at Crewe) have been published in the press. However, there are not that many pictures of the locomotive undergoing later assembly which would be interesting to see.

Is that simply due to supply limitations, like only having a 32A supply available?

In all the excitement I'd missed out posting on here about the testing of the 89s' Armature Convertors. We've taken off rather a lot of dampers and are getting together the plan to do something about the Rheo Brake Stacks since. See http://www.aclocogroup.co.uk/news.php

The work on the bogies has continued on apace with the bogies being dismantled to allow replacement of the axle bearings. Further details and some pictures of the work in progress at https://www.aclocogroup.co.uk/news.php

Fascinating, as ever. I take it TDM = Time Division Multiplex?

The Sega Master System was 8Bit as was the competing Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
The Sega Megadrive (or Sega Genesis to our American cousins) was 16Bit as was the competing Super Ninintendo Entertainment System (SNES)

I didn't realise until this thread that microprocessors were used on locomotives. I have 20 years experience with a large number of microprocessors and have equipment to read/write/edit ROMs. If there are any groups in dire need let me know.

    AC Locomotive Group Update:

The restoration 89001 took a major step forward today, 15 November 2020, with the locomotive's pantograph being raised on to an energised 25kV overhead wire for the first time in 20 years and the first time in the ownership of the AC Locomotive Group.

The locomotive systems were energised and checked by our Engineers before the locomotive moved (a short distance) under its' own power for the first time in our ownership.

Our thanks to West Midlands Trains for hosting the 89 while we undertake this testing.

A video of the 89 testing can be seen at
