Hy I am looking for info on this loco. The sister loco to Austell Castle which is running in the ELR. 4001 has been canibilised to keep 4002 running but there are only 2 of these locos built by Hudswell Clarke for the MSC. 4001 is reported to be dumped nect to a sports shop in a terrible condition but I cannot find out who owns it. If ELR do , you would have thought it would be in their yard . I have phoned various places but I never get a reply or answer to e mails. So if anyone knows who owns it , maybe it could be brought back from the brink . Before the scrappers get to it. Anyone know anything? Regards

I understand both locos are now owned by the ELR 4002 Arundel castle is regularly used on shunting duties and it is intended 4001 will move to Bury to join it at some point.

Has 4001 been moved from its exposed position. So long as it is in safe hands. It would be a shame to hear that such a rare Loco had been destroyed as I understand it has been there for a good number of years. I only came across it because I was looking for an 0-6-0 Brush loco and it just happens 4001/2 were fitted with Brush generating equipment

As I understand has provided spares to 4002.When it can be extracted from its current location to be moved to Bury to provide future spares.

Sad to report that 4001 has now been scrapped, being mostly cut up on site in Feb 2019. The remains were reportedly taken to Baron Street depot for component recovery, presumably as spares for 4002.

Very sad end for this loco after all of these years, sorry to see this. Remember them both at Mode Wheel and over at the Trafford Park shed.

    Cheerz,

    Alan
