I agree, but when I was looking at my photos that day I noticed a slight deviance. The orange stripe on off-white of the window frame. It's a recent anachronism, put there I believe for current H&S.

But that's certainly the livery that set off the Deltics to their best and the way they all were when I first saw them. 05-D9009-Alycidon,-web.jpg

    Anyone explain this?
On rolling stock there is meant to be the orange stripe along the cantrail defining the OHL zone.
Is this what that cab stripe is?

The only thing that could improve that would be the winged thistle carried when working the 'Scotsman.' When I was a kid on spotting expeditions to Donny and York (from Lancaster), it was always a sense of occasion to see a 'Delly' with that headboard....cop or not!

Ah - Like this you mean ?
Don't think I ever saw one carrying the thistle for real.
I never noticed the orange lining until it was mentioned here, but it is visible and looks to carry on over the cab door !

3rd Oct 2015 at Ribblehead -can't remember what the tour was but it was worth stopping for after walking back from seeing 45231 at Blea Moor.
Just a shame the coaches weren't maroon - certainly I don't think all over blue was an improvement.

D9009, in green with small yellow panels, on Pullmans, with thinged whistle on the front. Doesn't get much better!

The all-over blue made them look somewhat lumpen and bulky: the lower stripe hid that well.

The green liveries applied to the diesels really were well thought out aesthetically.

For which reason I (honestly!) liked the Porterbrook livery on 9016.

That's a timeless classic photo, could be anywhere from Berwick to Aberdeen.

Yes, a location I have come to know very well over the last 45+ years... I'll be forever grateful to my Dad for getting me into Railways in the first place, but also for introducing me to what I consider the nicest scenery there is anywhere - I one day hope I'll be able to live somewhere next to the S&C. Heaven on Earth for me!

    Richard.
