Had a very enjoyable day at the BCM on Saturday on a photo charter a bit different from the ones I normally attend. A bit of a step back in time with the period dressed re-enactors making it look realistic. I have processed some of the images to give a bit of a period feel _DSC3301m.jpg _DSC3335-2.jpg _DSC3374m2.jpg _DSC3376.jpg _DSC3428.jpg _DSC3431m.jpg _DSC3436.jpg _DSC3457.jpg _DSC3473.jpg _DSC3537.jpg

Ah! The torch of youth symbol for a school. They were phased out on the basis that nobody understood the meaning. (I blame the schools.) I last went to the Black Country Museum on a grim winter's day around five years ago. Drizzle and mist, and a poor attendance, certainly brought out the grimness of the times portrayed.

We went in before and left after opening to the public but during opening time the public were conveyed round th edited on the blue trolley and the bus, we also had the use of a green trolley. Unfortunately the tram was out of action

I wonder whether I've just been unlucky, but I haven't seen the trolleybuses working for 3 or 4 years. The museum never replies to email queries and on the couple of times I 'phoned, I had to explain what a trolleybus is.
Maybe things have changed at Dudley, or maybe I really did keep catching them on a bad day! It's a wonderful place though and your photos are truly amazing. Thanks for posting!

Thank you. From what I gathered on this visit the buses are the responsibilities of their owners, they are not the property of the museum so you may have been unlucky that there were no authorised drivers on site. This was an organised charter and the organiser may well have had direct contact with the bus owners. The one we missed out on was the 1920s Dennis Lancet, a couple of volunteers were working on it and said that if they knew we were coming they would have had it operational.
The other thing I should point out is that most of the people in period dress were there at the invite of the charter organiser, on normal days there would be a lot less.

I believe the tramcars are undergoing extensive maintenance and therefore not operational at present.

Our school motto used to be "Be Prepared to Carry The Torch" but people thought that the aim of the school was to create budding arsonists, so it was quietly dropped, another victim of 'reform'.. Mind you we did have a few who I used to think would end up as arsonists...

Very nice pictures by the way, I think the last time I went was over 15 years ago.

I had the fortune to ride of this 'old boneshaker' some years ago. So good to see it back in service.
