A couple of shots from today. Must say 78022 looks lovely in the BR Green, a welcome change to the BR Black we're used to seeing the type in. Hope we get a 41241 and 78022 double header soon while they're both in non-black schemes.

The loco looks superb in Brunswick Green. Looking forward to see it running at a steam gala at the worth valley.

A double header with 46521 would be rather nice!

Although thinking about the transport costs vs repaint costs would it not be cheaper for the GCR to repaint 78018 if you wanted to see such a combination?

Photoshop would be cheaper still and would save a lot of paint wibble.

Does anyone know any details of which members of the class carried BR green? I understand 78002 was one example (from Wikipedia), but that's the only reference I've found online so far?

78000 - 78009 according to RCTS BR Standards book vol 2. Some lined and some unlined. Interestingly it says 78002 cannot be confirmed as green, although maybe photos have emerged since publication.

I think the choice of livery is a matter for the loco owners rather than the GC. I believe the former GM wanted to paint it blue but the Darlington Loco Society thankfully kept things more authentic

I'm well aware its the owners prerogative as to which livery a loco wears as I did spend some time on a certain loco in blue and how the punters (& owner RIP) loved it and for all the 'enthusiasts' who didn't - well it did make the said owner say on quite a few occasions to those bombastic individuals who asked (many did not know who he was) "its my engine and I like it!" - the expression on some of their faces was worth it every time.

A Std 2 in blue would look rather good, and it and would be loved by many of the normal punters too, although the 'paint froth wibblers' may need to take a few more blood pressure pills!

I wish people would stop referring to B.R. passenger loco green as "Brunswick Green" - it isn't and never was. The shade of green that B.R. used was the same as GWR mid chrome green and has more yellow and less blue in it than Brunswick green. They are two totally different shades of green. Unfortunately erroneously calling it Brunswick green started in the enthusiast press many years ago and seems to have become 'fact'. Sorry if this sounds pedantic but I believe that preserving the correct railway terminology is as important as preserving the physical artifacts. I'll get of my soapbox now!
    Cheers,
    Ray.

Don't know whether it's true but I understood it started in the modelling community when the closest Humbrol match to middle chrome green was Brunswick green.

We all know B.R. had some of the G.W.R. 4.6.0. Kings blue and the G.W.R. liked to try keep their locos traditional big 4 grouping brunswick green. Like the jubilees started out maroon but 45552 silver jubilee was painted silver. in wartime jubes were black and then repainted brunswick green in B.R. era and some of the 9f,s standard 5,s were green.

Not quite right 5552 was black with chrome fittings and boiler bands and only one 9F was green

9f 92220 E.S. is the origional green 1. Like 92214 at G.C.R. its a preservation paint job cos i can remember 92214 at N.Y.M.R. in 2012 painted black and named cock o the north.
