After a recent conversation we discussed preservation schemes which are no longer with us.
Off the top of our heads we came up with:
    • Swansea Vale Railway
    • Lochty Private Railway
    • North Downs Steam Railway
    • Ayrshire railway society - Minnivey site.
Would like to hear about other failed schemes and what happened to them?

    Bromyard and Linton Railway.
    Bugle Steam Railway.

Presume we are talking NG a or larger (as opposed to 5", 7-1/4" etc) and ones that actually got off the ground as opposed to planned or dreamed about lines?

There was a preservation plan and two panniers were put aside for it at bath road. It was never a goer really as the m5 was always going to cut the track bed at right angles

Lytham Motive Power Museum - most of the stock including the Y9, Vulcan and Pullman car was dispersed after closure but last I heard some bits were still there. In the '80's there was a short lived scheme at Padiham Power Station and even earlier one at Delph station with, IIRC, a 15" Hunslet and a Mk1 coach. There was also the Meon Valley in the late 60's with a Terrier and Sadler railcoach - subject of a recent 'loony' scheme and, of course, Bleadon & Uphill Museum with GW 1338 and a railbus. There must be several 'private' schemes/collections which folded such as the Mark Bamford/Titanic Steamship Co collection of industrials, several of which were scrapped. An interesting thread from which lessons can, and should, be learned. Ray.

What happened to the North Woolwich Railway Museum? I believe the GER coffee pot is now at the Flour Mill, but what about the rest of the artefacts?

Thanks for the info, I would guess it falls outside the realms of this thread as it never really existed, in the same manner that the North Devon scheme or Border Union Railway failed to materialise.

Stratford and Broadway railway group had a site at Long Marston with rolling stock to their name until relatively recently, having a few open days on site, although they never laid their own track, don't know if that counts?

The LNER Restaurant car was gifted to the LNERCA and is currently in use as a workshop at Pickering. I think one or two pieces of furniture and other items came to the NYMR as well.

Most of the exhibits were dispersed to other preservation sites, including the East Anglian Railway Museum, Mangapps, Epping-Ongar and NYMR, though some items of local significance have been retained by Newham Borough Council and some privately owned items were returned to their owners.
