My wife and I had a very good meal on the "Charnwood Forester" Dining train last night on the Great Central Railway. It was billed as a first-class service and lived up to its billing with pleasant, attentive service, good quality food well cooked and presented and clean and well-presented carriages that added to the ambience. This was the first dining train we had done, and it got me to thinking about doing something similar in future.

So, I guess my question is what dining trains have others on the forum done, how good (or I guess not so good) were they and which in your views gave the best overall experience. Any thoughts gratefully received. Thank you

On heritage railways, my wife & I have travelled on both the Bluebell's and K&ESR pullman trains. Both are really excellent dining experiences. The only negative is that if you go for the Saturday evening dining train, it's a very late night which isn't my personal cup of tea.

I have taken my wife on the Belmond Pullman. Expensive ? Yes indeed, but worth it as a very special treat. The food is absolutely top class and when you have the thrill of Clan Line up front, what more could one want?
