As there been any attempt since 2001 to try and re-open to the public? I have really fond memories of the line from my youth and it'd be a dream to go back one day

Not really. The farm is, first and foremost, a home for the Stirland family and consequently they find it best suits them to remain as a private railway with occasional running for invited guests. They are also really too busy building new engines and overhauling older ones (including their recently purchased O&K) to have the time to regularly open anyway.

Exmoor Associates did arrange a day there for their shareholders a few years ago, which is the nearest there has been to a public open day.

The railway itself is kept in top notch condition and the gardens look a treat in summer. However any visitors do need a pre-arranged appointment (and a good reason!) or they will be turned away.

    Hi Charlie,

I have good memories of Exmoor!

Are you allowed to say more on what the O&K is that they have purchased? And is there still plans for a 2 foot gauge running line?

    Thanks!

Putting two and two together it could well be the O&K 060 WT "Elsa" tthat was mentioned on here some time ago

The O&K is Elsa and I imagine her presence will see the proposed 2ft gauge line constructed - though there is already some 2ft gauge track in the yard.

Excellent! Great that it has found a buyer and will be working again.

    Thanks for the info.

Happy memories of when it was open to the public. We couldn't drag the boys away until the end of the working day; once the train derailed and the boys thought it was part of the schedule!
