As soon as news hits the London press, this will sell out.
This trip isn't for enthusiasts, it's for those who must do the first of the first and have the cash to do it.

I actually applaud this style of thinking, this is how preservation needs to be as a business if it is to fund itself. I would have been more disappointed if this trip had been given as a freebie to the Sir Humphrey brigade who believe they are important and should get it for free because of that.

For the rest of us... NYMR beckons at the lower end, and there's an abundance of Scotsman railtours this year at much more affordable prices.

    Next question..The stock ?

But sad that it has to be. I wonder if Pegler would have seen it that way. I wonder what the ticketing arrangements were like for the non stop run in 1968?

I don't think Pegler is a very good example lol.

What stock do DB Schenker usually use for their rail excursions?

That seems a fair summation. I do agree that preservation has to change its way of funding.

So they have 'gone live' on the Kings X- York excursion. Before then, it has to get to York and be painted. How long does it take to paint a loco. Is it a bit tight timewise or is there plenty of time?

Heritage Painting did the final painting, lining out and varnishing on Camelot at the Bluebell in 4 days. But it had been filled/primed/first coats beforehand by Bluebell staff. They're a quick and efficient outfit and their work is outstanding.

The painting is not going to happen at Bury? I would think that with 60007 being overhauled in York that there wouldn't be enough room. But what do I know?

I think a lack of track linking to the mainline has put a stop to that

I'd rock up for the tour, point out you have written invitation from the NRM (I look forward to you being my guest) and demand a seat by the window, near the loco.

i am quite sure the £450 ticket price is justified and the trip will be quickly 'sold out'.

it is a simple matter of demand and supply.

    cheers,
    julian

No no, I was just happy to receive the letter in all honesty! It was a very nice thing for Steve Davies to do and it hangs on my wall as a reminder of a happy time in my life.

84p / mile is still cheaper than many preserved lines...

I absolutely categorically could not agree more. This is exactly how this needs to be done. The loco is the most famous loco in the world and tapping in to those who can pay top dollar will help publicity and the bottom line. She needs all the publicity and cash she can get after what has been truly a lost decade.

I'd make it an even £600 and throw in a bottle of Bolli or VC, but what do I know about those square mile types...

But the majority of people who have the sort of money to afford will probably not have heard of the Duchess of Sutherlanf but almost certainly will have heard of Flying Scotsman. This isn't an LMS v LNER thing, it's about the NRM cashing in on the fame of a locomotive that even non enthusiasts are aware of. If I told my customers I'd see Duchess of Sutherland, few would know that I was talking about a steam loco but if I mentioned Flying Scotsman, far more would know what I was on about.

My comment was a little tongue in cheek, but a very elderly lady who used to live across the road was very impressed when I told her I had been to see the Duchess of Sutherland at Beeston Castle.......

On the flip side, some guys were less than impressed when they asked what I was doing standing at a Field in the middle of nowhere and I replied I am waiting for Lord Nelson to come with a King Arthur.

I agree. There are people who will pay the £400+ asking price.....fine, enjoy the day AND every little helps in re couping the restoration costs. Me?? I 'll give it 6/12 months for all the fuss to die down, FS will still be there, well bedded in, and performing as it should.
