The LNER naming policy must have confused generations of uninitiated passengers, Salmon Trout and Sandwich sound like things on the menu in the Buffet Car. Batchelors Button, Blink Bonny, Spearmint would have been puzzling and perhaps in view of what's been said up thread I should say nothing about Brown Jack.

    Apologies for what follows...

    Book Law

I first called on St Simon in the Woolwinder to be a little Enterprise-ing, when I found myself Night Hawk-ing with Sunstars in my eyes, I felt slightly Papyrus and not very Gladiateur-us I'd gone a bit Colombo riding Colorado having Shotover Felstead gate at Doncaster in the Diamond Jubilee stakes then Galopin to Harvester via St Gatien gate.
Later I met Ladas, Lemberg and Robert the Devil for a pint of Isinglass in the Cameronian and whilst there chatted to Prince Palatine and Blink Bonny who told us that the White Knight had lost his Sceptre at the Grand Parade to Captain Cuttle. Well we still had a Fairway to go so we re-Tracery-ed our steps back to that Tranquil Centenery year when Pretty Polly first saw Spearmint and Call Boy, they look likely Windsor Lads so with a pinch or Persimmon they went to Galtee More only stopping at the Spion Kop on the Great Northern road where she discovered one was a Hermit and the other a Gay Crusader.
Meanwhile in Gainsborough, Neil Gow and Sir Hugo were discussing the merits of Solario with Victor Wild, when that old Flying Fox, Brown Jack appeared holding his Bayardo to the Prince of Wales. This was too much for Donovan who flew like a Flying Flamingo Scotsman to tell William Whitelaw that he should meet the Knight of the Thistle at Blenheim to fight for the Coronach using his Royal Lancer.
St Frusquin found this all a bit Humorist so said Cicero' to Sir Frederick Banbury and left for The Tetrarch in Ormonde.
Later Knight of Thistle and Firdassi beat Tagalie and Sansovino in the battle of Trigo on Blair Athol.
Personally I find this Manna from Hyperion but its better than Dick Turpin and a BR Salmon Trout Sandwich or am I in the Minoru-ty?

    Merry Hampton

Some people just have too much time on their hands! It's brilliant though, very Humorist and totally Amadis and it must have been a very Happy Knight for you putting that together. You should get it published but make sure the publisher gives you a Straight Deal.

Bottle green livery, looks like NRM lost the colour shade card again!
Apparently, it will be on show from next week free at the NRM, if you can past the arm twisters for a "contribution" to their running costs!

But I'm quite sure that everybody who posts on this forum would be quite happy to give a few pounds to support the work of the world's greatest railway museum.

    Wouldn't we?

That is a very nasty sneering kind of comment.
Guess what, the NATIONAL railway museum caters for everyone in Britain, so enthusing children (future enthusiasts) is far more important than giving a few grumpy old enthusiasts who already like "trains" a free museum catering to their niche interests.
Yes, you might not have all the details that a real obsessive would like displayed by every loco, but any child of three or more can get those online within a minute if getting home.
We're supposed to be gricers, not gripers.
If we don't stick up for the fantastic work the NRM does, in the current funding climate it will be for the chop.
The NRM does a great job in getting people - yes, many of them children - interested in railways, as it did with me in the mid 1980s.

If you haven't been recently, how can you know?

The NRM does a fantastic job with search engine and research generally - the locomotives and rolling stock in the museum are well looked after.

Come on, surely we need to stand shoulder to shoulder in difficult times than look to lambast our closest allies?
