deep fried mars bar anyone? ok, ok, i will get my coat also, TAXI !!!!
Wht is the plan for 60103 over the summer, if she's going to be in the NRM, with no booked mainline work, if the chance of earning some additional money for its upkeep came along, in the fom of a extra couple of runs , especially if it was from its home base, plus have 60163 and 60103 ever been at york at the same time ? having both in steam in the yard i would imagine would attract a lot of attention

Negative news I'm afraid. The planned movement today, Monday 22nd, of 60103 + Support coach by DBS staff from York NRM to York NRM via Scarborough has been cancelled due to a broken driving spring. I believe this spring was removed yesterday. This would have been the planned movement; http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U50655/2016/02/22/advanced Hope this superb locomotive has better luck in the near future.

I wonder if this broken spring was the cause of that journal getting warmer than it should have done?

Dropping the wheel set might have caused it.

It's going to be a close run thing, it's supposed to be heading south tomorrow, RTT still showing that working as live.

  8. Given your somewhat evangelical zeal (which I read expressed across a number of online forums) Simon, your reaction was entirely expected. I'm sure there are similarly driven individuals in many hobbies who would react the same way if someone had posted a similar sentiment to mine. I admire your enthusiasm, although quite how you manage to find time to express it at such length with also apparently working six days a week seems to actually defy the laws of time and space. I can only assume that those SouthEastern EMUs somehow suspend time within them on your daily commute. If you've got any of that time going begging, please do send some my way! :)

But the fact remains that nothing stays the same forever. I maintain that it is better to have a life lived well and full than to waste any of it worrying about the future too much.

Trust me, all too soon you will be like me, knocking on 50, have friends, family and childhood heroes dropping like flies around you, physically spreading quicker than margarine on hot toast and going "Bloody hell - where the hell did that go? I'm sure I was only 23 last week." But you will still feel 23 inside, which is the most terrible thing when you are walking hand-in-hand with your partner/spouse and see "Uuurgh! Old people holding hands!!" written all over the faces of teenagers you pass.

Make the most of every moment. By all means plan for the future, but don't waste valuable time worrying about things that you can't control.

Good advice, I remember one of my school teachers saying we should all make the most of the first 25 years of our life as no matter how long we lived after that The rest of our lives would past faster than the first 25 years. Believe me, he was right.

When I said fit the shoe back against the leading driving wheel, that wasn't what I meant.
