Do you worry about Bulleid and Bullied? This is a very common error.

Is this seriously an argument on the misspelling of a name? Come on ladies and gents. We're better than this. It happened, it's been corrected. Moving on. :)

May I say something I have wanted to for some time - I am so, so happy with our lot in railway preservation, where Flying Scotsman is concerned. She looks fantastic, is maintained beautifully, is getting out and about around the country and bringing joy to so many people. That's what it's all about for me, and it was for Pegler too. I think he'd be very happy.

...but dare I put in a request for an anniversary repaint to celebrate his purchase and saving of the locomotive when the time is right. Complete with red nameplates please. ;)

As long as people get the meaning of what your trying to post, isn't that's what counts,, As regards Flying Scotsman yes Alan Pegler deserves to be remembered, it was after all him who saved the engine, it was I believe always his hope that he might one day gift it to the nation, of the various owners, the Marchington era is I would say the sadist, for both the man, and the engine as even if i'm sorry that it bankrupted him, but he was I feel rather lead up the garden path by others who saw 4472 as a way to ensure their reputations and in one case possibly after being side lined a way to meet his need to be in the public eye, and it ended with both these gentlemen's image being severely damaged . when the true extent of the locos state was found once it was purchased by the NRM,and stripped down for overhaul, and in the end it took Ian Riley, to put it right .

But wouldn't you have to go back to a single chimney as well? I really like it in BR Green! Is there any evidence for it being as E103 in Apple Green with BRITISH RAILWAYS in full on the tender? Look good against Tornado then!

It would also require an A4 non corridor tender, technically, together with (as you say) a single chimney. You can also in theory have her as 103/LNER in this form too. It would look good! She's never carried this variation in preservation.

    Thanks Simon:)

I think we've just found the next repaint - should satisfy both the LNER and BR livery fans! I'd quite happily stick my hand in my pocket to contribute to that if needed. I'm not sure how many, if indeed any, locomotives have carried the regional prefix plus pre-nationalisation running number in preservation?

Single chimney sounds like a good idea to me, we can see the last of those aesthetically awful "elephant ears" at the same time too!

And for all those that will no doubt moan and groan about a loss in performance, well I can remembering it's time at Steamtown when it operated perfectly well on the main line, besides it's a loco in semi-retirement and it should not be all about getting the last ounce of thrust out of a increasingly elderly bit of equipment, or at least it shouldn't be!

This is where a mate and I differ - he hates the German deflectors yet I and my brother feel it improves the locomotive - my brother recalls seeing A3s thus fitted when they were still running. After all, some racehorses have blinkers!

Yet if I were to see it run how I'd prefer it, it'd never get out on the main line again; because it'd be in "as-built" GNR condition!

As an admirer of German steam, I have no problem with Scotsman’s Witte style deflectors.

Not quite correct, it didn't get left hand drive until 1954. Best left as it is

I guess the question is how long will the NRM keep it in BR green? The loco's centenary year in 2023 may put pressure on it being in the more iconic apple green with 4472 on the cab side? If so, maybe the time would come for single chimney and no deflectors once again? What I'd really be disappointed to see would be a return to apple green with double chimney and deflectors... terrible.
