Happy New Year! We’re kicking off 2023 with a closer look at the next coin in our 2023 Annual Sets which celebrates a Legendary Locomotive.
Travel back to the great age of steam with John Bergdahl’s Flying Scotsman coin design. Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the most famous locomotive in the world still operates today.

A shame they couldn’t get it right, it was right hand drive as built so the ejector pipe should be on the other side!

Does it matter, it's a likeness not a high detail image.

I interpreted @Johnb's post as being tongue-in-cheek rather than nit-picking. I can't imagine any genuine enthusiast is going to lose any sleep over such a small piece of detail. More to the point, a steam loco is being commemorated by this commemorative coin - a good reason for gratitude when there is so much doom and gloom around at the moment.

IF it was taken on 15th May 1965 then the outward route on Six Bells Junction states that was from Lincoln Central - Saxilby - Gainsborough Lea Road - Retford - Doncaster to Castle Douglas station (which was closed one month later on 14th June). Apparently the tour returned from Dumfries Station.
The SBJ site also has an image of a one shilling platform ticket for Castle Douglas station so BR ScR were getting in on money-making opportunities.

The first episode of the new Hornby: A Model World Series on the Yesterday channel has unfortunately been pulled just before broadcast this evening due to editorial reasons. It was due to feature 60103.

Glad the coin is a single chimney and without the Kriegslok spectacles, which it only carried a year in service

I always thought that Flying Scotsman was too big for the Mallaig line, but clearly not - who knew? 95-8-31 18 75014 copy.jpg

So, based on the assumption that the general population are easily fooled, how many members of Joseph Public are being duped into buying the wrong parts?
"Just nipping down the shops dear..."
    "What are you going for"
"Nowt much, new set of piston rings for an A3*..."
