Pantograph fitted to back of tender to run immersion heaters/charge batteries. Diesel genny in support coach as back up battery charger when not under the wires...

Nah - according to my "mole", the middle cylinder is becoming the new air pump for the brake system.

Is there still enough room for the DCC chip?

Still being serious the overhaul was originally estimated at £ 750,000 and 2 years this at the time seemed expensive 7 years ago ,the last figure was 2.7 million a 2 million overspend which = £5,500 a week surely there's not a bottomless pit of money available to them .

No, according to my source they are modifying 4472 into a 76:1 replica of the Hornby live steam loco of 4472.

The immersion heater goes in the tender, an electric motor in the area where the middle cylinder went to alter the cut off and Network Rail are to be asked to electrify their tracks to carry 17v current!

I thought the NRM intended to look at all the options for liveries with both single and double chimney ( assuming they feel the loco can performe well enough with a single chimney), so 60103 in late livery should still be a possibility

How about fitting Green arrow with new separate cylinders as so many of the class were modified? keep the damaged monoblock for display??:whistle:
Is there really any evidence for that? Surely pounding up to Ais Gill for instance with 10 or 12 on the back will provide a far greater cyclic stress on the frames than a bit of road transport. It didn't help that I think the boiler pressure was raised to 250psi for at least part of the time since the previous overhaul.

I too wondered about Green Arrow with separate cylinders, at least if it made patterns and casting the new items easier. Perhaps depends if the saddle and associated gubbins would need modification as well.

I've already posted in my Fab Four thread but just to repeat here... It's not the news we wanted to give you and everyone here at the Roundhouse is very disappointed. The team here has put 100s of hours into preparing for the event. But the show must go on, we still have an amazing line up and we hope you will support us by attending.

Not at all surprised. In fact I would be very surprised if it makes the Olympic torch train!

I presume the bogie frames I saw today are Flying Scotsman's. To be perfectly honest I'll be surprised if I see her in steam at Railfest.

Do'h! Been fooled again. I'm new to all this preservation stuff so I don't really know what changes they can or can't make.

Don't worry, at least you've got a sense of humour - most important on here - and I thought you were just egging us on. Welcome to the nut house :)

Well said. And won't it be magical in any event to see two A4s in garter blue with valances, together for the first time in preservation? I'm surprised that's not getting mentioned more.
