We'll have to agree to disagree about that. I have distinct memories of SG failing on 2 out of 2 early runs around the Standedge / Todmorden "Cotton Mill" circuit. She may have sounded good when she was running, but there were lots of problems early on.

Hence the 'not overly reliable', yes, middle big end bearing bush disintegrated en route to Preston, 'Metal fatigue' ?, I think the second one was a Vacuum problem from memory. The reason for my reply to Martin was, he appeared to be trivializing the complexity of the two restorations by such off the cuff comments. Some people on this forum have Loco restoration experience, some don't, that is no reflection on any individual, but never the less, fact...

I thought the 'Alberta' parts went to the Patriot project? Or was that just some of them?

Alberta and Achilles, but by no means a complete set of motion to Galatea, I think there was also a con rod from the BLS spares, along with the rest of what was left from the other two, for the Patriot

Just resurrecting an old thread here, rather than starting a new one. Just had an email from Steam Dreams advertising forthcoming trips. Interestingly they refer to "5699 Galatea" whilst detailing the planned motive power for their March 1st trip from Euston to Holyhead. Does anybody know anything about this? It would be nice to see her turned out in LMS red as 5699 :)

I suspect not (although delighted to be wrong), I have seen 6201 often noted as being 46201 on literature and likewise with 46233/6233.

Don't build your hopes up! Ex-BR men (and I'm one of them) tended to use the LMS number long after steam finished, leaving off the initial 4.

Oh, I know about dropping the first number from a loco's BR one, but it just struck me as being unusual for SD.

As ever, when discussing the inhabitants of 10A, time will tell...

There we a go! A loco with 4 numbers that didn't carry black, but liked it so much it wanted to wear it and try it out! ;);):p:p:Resistanceisfutile:

ah yes the CoT...the loco so famous for doing 100mph+ that it was preserved in 1931 and then people tried to rubbish that claim for the next 80 odd years
