    Thanks 23E for your response.

We did try to put headboards onto appropriate motive power wherever possible to link in with set themes. Like on the Monday we had CCE boards on both 5526 and 9017. Thing is headboards cost money, money that to be perfectly honest is better spent elsewhere. However for around £15 each, one of Llangollen volunteers was able to make several for our event and as he did this at his own cost we felt obliged to let him place them on some of our services. It wasn't all of the services however, many did run without.

With regards to 44801. Yes we know the Scotty 5s had larger cabside numbers, but to make it easier for ourselves we changed just the 6 either side. However the paint sample we were given was wrong hence for the first weekend it didn't look particularly pretty. During the midweek though this was rectified and she looked much better for the remainder of the event IMHO.

Nice to see though overall you had an enjoyable event and hopefully we will see you in the Dee Valley again.

It was I who repainted the offending numeral into yellow orchre to match the colour of the rest - just in time for Scottish day.

    Hope the photographers appreciated it.

Weeeell ... it isn't really authentic for en engine in BR livery, but I doubt anyone would raise any objections to that headboard appearing on an ex-LNER pacific in pre-Nationalisation livery.
Perhaps 4472, if and when it finally re-emerges (and without smoke-deflectors, dare I add?), might be permitted to sport such an embellishment occasionally ... for it did work the train from time to time.

    Here's a very authentic looking 'Thames-Clyde Express' today ;-)

While owners / operators are obviously free to embelish their locos as they please, I have to wonder what the point is. In this case, it isn't a loco that worked the TCE, it isn't on the route, and it looks nothing like an express train. All it does is spoil what was quite a good recreation of a BR branch line scene.

"Daddy are we going on the express?
    Yes son, that's our train.
It's not very fast is it?
No son, it's an old steam loco and in those days expresses didn't get above 25mph, even though they only had 3 coaches."

Today at Swanage somebody was moaning about tangmere having the ''The Royal Wessex'' instead of ''The Dorset Coast Express'' or whatever, its not even like it doesn't look authentic ](*,)

Some people need to put things into a sense of perspective #-o

It can be arranged to get a Past-Time Rail headboard on that's the same size as the Royal Wessex one! Or failing that how about Cadbury's Celebrations?

Not the LNER version of the "Flying Scotsman" headboard, surely?

Well considering the Flying Scotsman headboard was about even when 4472 was about, they have nothing to complain about - Quite fitting actually!

yes it is the L.N.E.R version. On page 214 there is a picture of A4 60025 Falcon in B.R Blue livery with the same style headboard coming out of Copenhagen Tunnel on 3rd March 1950 with the 3rd L.N.E.R version of the FLYING SCOTSMAN headboard, the same style as fitted to 60007 in that picture. The headboard that was fitted to 60007 has the same size letters in the 3rd L.N.E.R version of the headboard, the sizes are 3 1/4 in top and bottom lines.

Thanks God for that, maybe well get back to topics that are actually worth discussion without all the moaning that has run throughout this one.
