I’ve been asked recently where I have spent the last three weeks, as my blog updates have been missing. Well, one has to take time off occasionally, and we had a couple of weeks in Mid Wales with four days firing on the Talyllyn Railway, where I have been a locomotive volunteer for 21 years now.

Mark, our webmaster at the National Railway Museum, caught me yesterday. We chatted about the blog and I threatened to post some holiday snaps – so here they are. There is life outside the NRM for me. Funny, it still involves railways occasionally…

[IMG]Not an everyday hazard of rail travel. Cows on Brynglas bank, staring us out. I had to shoo them down the line to a gate and a lineside field...

[IMG]No finer view than that from the fireman's side as we leave Dolgoch station on No.3 Sir Haydn

[IMG]An added attraction while we were in Wales was the running of The Cambrian main line trains. Here, on a rare sunny day, Black 5 Number 44871 gets away from Tywyn in fine style, reminiscent to me of the old GWR Speed to the West poster
