Thanks for sharing. I visited Ireland several times - in 1978 I took my mother on a cheap BR all inclusive trip there - train from Plymouth to Fishguard on Friday evening; changing at Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea and Fishguard then overnight boat to Rosslare for coach tour to Glendalough and back via Wexford for tea - where I took the opportunity to go to the station and see one of the single cab GMs with a tablet catcher. Overnight boat again and back home on Sunday afternoon, ready for a decent night's sleep!

Enough to encourage further trips - yes it was very different from Britain, with plenty of loco haulage, proper staffed country stations and semaphore signalling right up till around 2008. I still go over occasionally but it is not quite the same nowadays. There are still some great RPSI steam trips, though.

Nice photo. At least the line is still open and gets the occasional steam special, with a bit more competition from other photographers!
