I note that RTC have got the loco in the pool for the Bristol - Weymouth runs alongside 5029 and 70000. No idea what the intended loads are but if they are the same as last year, one assumes the Hall will need a bit of a help if it's to pull the same as the Class 7 locos.

Perhaps a similar option to that used with the Waterloo-Weymouth runs - down with 1 loco, back with the other and a banker out of Weymouth! Here's hoping!

The southbound climb to Evershott Tunnel is as steep as the climb out of Weymouth so on a class 7 load the Hall would need some assistance I'm sure. Glad these trips are booked for a few Sundays as I may be able to ride one this year.

Speaking to an ex Bristol fireman the other night, he said Halls used to take 7 Mk1s as a maximum over that route. One assumes the smaller wheels and larger cylinders/longer stroke help them really dig into the climbs. 5029 took 9 last year which was the maximum a Castle was allowed to take back in the days of steam, according to the GWR loadings book.

If Mk2 stock was used it would cut out the need for barrier vehicles and i believe they are marginally lighter than Mk1's too, assuming the plan is to use Cathex green stock again.

I will leave the updated details to the Kinlet team, but she is rostered for a double-header with 4965 from Birmingham to Didcot via Sapperton on April 2nd for the launch of 6023.

I have no reason to believe she will be anything but ready!

Has anyone got any ideas of the date and times off the test runs to Stratford?

Steam Railway suggests it will be sometime this week, though take their accuracy on such matters at your own risk!.

Yes, she looks pretty good in late BR livery, and will match 6024 for whatever time it has left on its ticket. I wonder if there'll be a double-header at some point? It's been a while since there has been two late-crested ex-GWR 4-6-0s running on the mainline; that last I recall was 7802.

Thank goodness Tyseley still has Rood Ashton Hall in a decent livery, at least she reminds mainline observers that something existed before British Railways. Well done to those who have overhauled Kinlet though, but please bring back Great Western livery for Great Western built locos!
