Thanks for all the kind coments, the small team have worked very hard over the last 18 months to get her to this condition. After 10 years in GW livery and a full repaint required (apart from the firebox most of the cladding had to be remade) it was thought a change would be nice. Current plans are for LE runs a week on thursday - no timings at present and of course this can change. Also finally hoping for definitive news this week on gauging issues as to whether we are doing any Weymouth's.

I can't think of a nicer bit of motive power for the Weymouth trips than a 2 cyl GW loco 4-6-0.

The 5'8" wheeled version would be excellent but the 6' 0" one will do fine!

    Keep us posted please Andy!

So when exactly did we start believing that we could use a picture in SR as a matching sample for ordering paint? The green in which 4936 is painted, closely matches the aluminium panel which we have, that was sent by some outfit in Swindon , Wiltshire, to a company called Docker Brothers that used to supply them with paint, and is shown as Br spec 30 locomotive green. This is a slightly darker shade than the GWR green that was still used up to the date of this panel in 1956, not only at Swindon, but apparently at other works such as Crewe. 6024 was painted in this some time back and didn't seem to be the cause of adverse comment at the time.

There are actually quite a number of small differences between BR and Great Western green livery, even if applied at Swindon, lining panel shapes and sizes differ, the corner radius of lining panels is bigger for BR and even the boiler band lining has different spacing between orange and black.

As to other questions, 5972 was indeed painted in late BR livery when first returned to traffic prior to being transferred to Hogwarts Railways, Also 4936 now has both the front numberplate and an 84E shedplate fitted.

    Regards
    Bob

I dunno guys, you all get very worked up about precise shades, but I used to do colour matching as a part of my living making pvc coatings and every now and then we had to let a batch go out that was really rather further out than it ought to have been because it was needed in a hurry and we'd stuffed the match so we'd just have to hope the customer wouldn't notice... I also have a few doubts about matching against 50 year old sample panels, although I agree its a hundred times better than any alternative...

I think you've answered your own question there...

I believe the access charges for an ECS are substantially less than those for a train ostensibly carrying passengers. No figures to substantiate this, though.

I think your correct there Steve, presumably they don't see the required number of people turning up to make a passenger run cheaper than an ECS run, getting to Shirley on a Thursday night isn't ideal unless you live in the surrounding area.

Some tour operators get permission for prearranged and named staff to travel on ECS.

The reason i asked is because on some previos test runs 9600, Leander and a 6024 test run, people were allowed to travel on board.

In those cases Tyseley advertised them (albeit at short notice) as availible to the public, they have not done so this time.

also 4936 is rostered on the Shakespeare on Sunday . why would you dilute the pool of potential passengers for that ? The one difference is no return up the North Warwicks
