No, we dont know exactly what happened but at no point have you said sorry for this mess, sorry to the employees who have lost their jobs, sorry to the tax payers of north wales who funded grants from the welsh assembly government to help get the railway through the covid crisis even though at that point it must have been obvious that the railway was in severe financial crisis, and no sorry to the enthusiasts who funded the work on the unknown warrior, work that Llangollen railway did that was so shoddy that the locomotive was removed from the railway and has had to have the work the Llangollen railway did redone
The engineers report on the state of the locomotive on the day it was to be removed from llan beggers belief
Also nice to note that the head man showed his support for the railway by taking his new build project , and serviceable locomotive elsewhere, class real class

I agree. It is hard to tell. Space, cash needs/availability, traffic needs and plans will all matter.

I can see some lines selling on their basketcases because of limited space, I can see some lines holding onto their basketcases because they are looking to expand or because there is another reason to hold onto it, I can also see where some lines decide to buy some basketcases because of future expansion plans (keep it for rainy day).

I can see some lines selling on basketcases because they want/need the cash post-covid, I can see some lines buying stuff because it available.

I wonder also about spares and perhaps buying a basketcase and stripping it for that.

Yes spares that was the other thing I meant to say in my post, along with the MK1s, genuine parts are not infinite. While preservation can and has produced most parts, they haven’t all of them. For example, (and happy to be corrected if I am wrong), nobody has built a new bogie for a MK1 yet.

As I have said previously , if you can tell me how to outvote a clique of directors of which I was not a part , please let me know. They have all run away - I haven't.

I’ll say this with my moderator hat off so there is no confusion. But, do you not think you are possibly attacking the one board member who is actually trying to do something about it?

In an ironic way your post illustrates that by mentioning one director who took his ball home and just walked away. As an outsider here it seems to me that we have someone who could of also walked away. However, they knew the railway had problems and rather than do that, tried to salvage something for the future benefit of everyone. They could of just walked away and let the railway disappear but chose not too. I admire them for that.

I said early on that for the benefit of the movement as a whole an emotion free cause analysis charting what happened may help others avoid Llangollen's current fate and the pain that the administration is causing

I appreciate for some it is a very raw subject and will remain so for some time but I do hope all involved I hope will reflect on their involvement and learn from it

Going back to the press release of the 28th April, the trust were aiming to obtain

Two of them! W4702 and M4643
And the others are creeping up as well.
Still no bids on the CK or RBR though.

Yes as usual with these things, the serious bids only start coming towards the end.

Presumably the CK isn’t in good condition if no one has bid. Someone might sneak in and try to get it cheap though.

Is "Tram Museum brown" (E4472) really a recognised colour?

Either that or not as operationally desirable for some railways.

The SK is doing pretty well though.

Starting prices now lowered for the CK and events coach.

In theory a SK has the same capacity as a TSO (if you count a compartment as 8 seat as per WR/SR convention).
CKs have one less compartment and the style of seats in the first class mean they are 6 only really.
Plus the photos suggest the CK needs a bit of touching up.

    Still useful extra seats
Still useful extra seats even if you don’t charge more for the privilege. Several railways have first class stock without having a two tier pricing system.
