What more interesting can be done with 5521 after its exploits in Eastern Europe?

Looks like the event was well recieved. Looking forward to seeing Met 1 and 353 at the Bluebell although it won't compare to seeing it through the tunnels under London.

Crews for this event (and for Steam on the Met) are provided by the locomotive owners or by Quainton Road with a pilotman supplied by the Underground who will come from the Met or C&H as appropriate.

I believe that Sarah Siddons was to provide assistance starting away from stations as they were concerned about the amount of smoke being created and if it would affect visibility for trains working in the other direction.

    Driver Geoff Phelps
    Fireman Oliver Furnell
both flourmill workshops (and other lines).

Geoff's other claims to fame include driving 5521 on a high speed run on the PKP mainline from Poznan to Gdansk to return it to the UK in 2007, and 30587 at Baker Street last year.

I know some people are in London again this Sunday so how about another meet for a pint or three?

Where were you suggesting and when? It is my and my friend's intent to do the Transport Museum in the afternoon, then in the evening see Met 1 on one of its Edgware only runs, find a pub for a pint and a meal and thence to our 22.35 departure from Moorgate.

The Metropolitan at Baker Street has a god range of ales and reasonable grub - it's a Wetherspoons - a decent prices for London.

These are very good, considering the light available. The Baker Street shot with the coaches' sides lit up by the oncoming train catches both the train profile and the gradient nicely.

Out of interest, can anyone tell me what Sarah Siddons gets up to? Where is it based? Does it do any tours, run privately, on diplay in a museum? etc. Many thanks in advance.

All depends on who wants to do what and when. I'll probably head there for a lunch and a beer or two, maybe move on somewhere else for another couple and then get somewhere for a phot of the first train of the proceedings.

Certainly shows the westbound climb out of Baker Street. You imagine the Underground being level but that's far from the case.

    Keep an eye on

Vehicles on the Move - London Transport Museum

For future tours using Sarah Siddons (and steam from now on too). It normally runs top and tail with a class 20 (or two) at the Rickmansworth Festival and at Amersham, usually Watford - Amersham shuttles. It occasionally sees other use, with a bit of luck it'll see even more use in the future on other tours. I wonder how quickly LU could do an electric/steam loco change at Ricky these days....!

Feel free to correct me if wrong, but I believe she's normally kept at Acton, usually for specials but occasionally see's use for other purposes, bit of a "depot pet" I presume as I don't think she was ever fully withdrawn, has certainly been active in the 70's and 80's anyway.

Some positive comments from Howard Collins in this Evening Standard article

"Next weekend, there will be a series of further trips but after that there may be some time before steam returns to the Underground, though it definitely will, according to Howard Collins, London Underground’s Chief Operating Officer. He said: "This has been a fantastic success and the work we put into it means we will now be able to run future events like this. Transport for London is considering running them every year. The engine has a certificate for 10 years, so it should be back"

Just a warning for those who may not know that - unlike last Sunday - there are fairly significant London Underground line closures this weekend, obviously including Sunday's travel, due to the usual planned engineering works on the Metropolitan, District, Piccadilly, Jubilee and Northern lines:

Planned Underground Line Closures this weekend (Jan 19 and 20)

Certainly on the deeper lines it tends to sink down on leaving a station and rise up on approaching one, in part to help slow the train.

My understanding was that 'SARAH SIDDONS' normally resides at West Ruislip depot along with the ex BR TC stock (76297+70823+71163+76324) and associated Mark 1 35011. I do though understand that it occasionally pops up at LTM Acton Depot Museum open days but not when I go!
