That is wonderful news. Best of luck to them - the CHR has the potential to be a great heritage railway.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I have only just discovered this thread. I'm sure that my late mum said that she did her anti-aircraft gunnery radar training in, or near, Oswestry in 1942/43. Would I have got that right???

There was a big installation at Park Hall but I have no knowledge of what went on there.

I am sorry for not updating here for a while, other less pleasant issues have kept me busy

    As a brief round up.

    TWAO
Due to the workload and priorities in the DfT we are still waiting for news. Everything that can be done has been done.
    http://www.cambrianrailways.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=603&start=40

    Owestry Station
The appeal is still open to help rebuild the down platform and lay in the middle and down road. Rails are beyond the crossing to the new medical centre and the station has come back to life. Still lots of maintenance to the building to be done.

    Relaying
The running line is fast approaching the Gasworks Bridge ( a very unromantic name..) and already the first passenger movements have taken place on the 'main line'.

A plan is being formalised for the repair work to the bridge allowing work on the next section to Weston Wharf.

    Footbridge
The footbridge, possibly for Weston, has arrived on site and is a genuine Cambrian Line item.

    Gobowen
Land obtained to bring the railway in to the station. It will take some time to sort out access as this borders a currently operational railway.

The Thursday team goes from strength to strength, what was a once a month is now almost weekly and great progress is being made
    http://www.cambrianrailways.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=701

The main issues are the usual ones, Money and Volunteers. The number of active volunteers is on the rise and real progress has been seen in 2016. Monay is still tight but in terms of progress the use of recycling and inventiveness means donations go a long way

The two operational parts and 'normal' restoration work goes on and is a vital part of fundraising and future developments.

Good to see this section back in use.
Seeing the reaction of the two girls at the end of the clip it might be an idea to adjust the angle of that injector overflow pipe so when it is used it does not aim at users on the footpath.

I think it is because the steam obscures the mobile phone signal... Thanks for the hint.

Has the railway decided what to do about the two level crossings? I notice that they are specifically 'excluded' from the TWAO.
Is the idea to get special permissions when they are wanted to be used, or to raise a lot of cash to build bridges?

Yes the level crossings are excluded from the application. The decision as to what to do will depend on funding and the status of the various roads at the time of the application. There is much discussion about a new dual carriageway which would obvioulsy require a bridge. One thing is for sure, EEC funding is out of the question.
    Edit
By the way I am an ordinary member of CHR for official statements look to the CHR website, I try to keep news items posted on here with a view to showing what is going on and maybe act as an incentive to visit, get involved or donate ( or even better all 3..)

Lifted from the Facebook page for those who do not have access. Post from last week.

"Today leaving the railway is one of our in store carriages. First Open number 3950, built in 1959 is moving to our friends at the Churnet Valley Railway (1992) Plc on loan until the end of 2019. The loan includes full restoration by the CVR so the coach will be back running on the Cambrian for our 2020 operating season."

3095 is one of the ex-GCR coaches which went to Llynclys. It had run on the GCR and wasn't it also the one which was loaned to the Bluebell at one point?
