Peckett's were a very small loco building company. If you study the build list in some years very few and sometimes no, new engines left the works. One assumes that a lot of repair work must have gone through the shops but even allowing for this, retaining skilled staff in all trades to build a new engine must have been a struggle unless it was the practice to buy in partly finished components eg cylinder castings, forgings, wheels etc.

I assumed from the works numbers that for much of their history they turned out a loco about once every couple of weeks?

After reading the NRM's notes I realised to my surprise that Peckett & Sons was owned by my then employer in the late 1980s. Although Peckett was nominally still in business at that time, to supply spare parts, I'm sure I never spotted any loco components in the stores or on the shop floor :)

Don't supposed anyone can shed any light on wether they have stay bolts or girder stays?

Which type of Peckett? Not all Peckett's will necessarily be the same, and they may well have gone through several iterations of boiler design within one locomotive class (this is certainly true of some other builders of small industrials).

I've a W4, a W6, an OY-S and an X2 all where I can take a look at them tomorrow or Saturday for you and try and work out which arrangement they have (the trouble is most of them are lagged, which make it hard to tell) if any of them are of interest to you.

Oh, and I think I've got a boiler drawing in my draw at work for a 2' gauge one (Jurassic class). I'll can dig that out and have a look if your interested in those.

All the small Pecketts I've been involved with have girder stays. (14" and less)

Andrew Neale of Plateway Press has a large record and collection of Peckett drawings, I would very much recomend you speak to Andrew in the first instance. He can be contacted via his website

    Kind Regards
