It's not looking good, reading the Spring SR mag it looks like there will be no services this year as the wheel sets are still taking there time. When the DMUs do arrive there would need to be acceptance trials and training before a service can operate, also no other company is willing to operate a service in an affordable way. However hopeful next year they will be able to operate the service with the DMU and maybe N class 31874 as well.

If you scroll down this article there are a couple of pictures of the 117 in Eastleigh Works:

Interesting how the secondary door locking is being done - makes the doors look a bit "odd"

That design of CDL really looks like an afterthought the way the plate sits on top of the door. But alas, if that's what's required to get them registered...

Having looked at some pictures of the Chiltern Railways Bubble Cars (121's) it looks like that is how they have been done as well - I hadn't noticed that before:

Any ideas as to when services will go to Wareham?

Assume the extension part will be painted black, to match in with the underframe. The green paint should stop in line with the rest of the bodywork

  10. Ah, the age-old issue of the appearance of paint being far more important than its primary role of preventing corrosion! ;)

Incidentally, I'm not sure the pictured 4TC at Eastleigh is owned by LUL. Isn't it the preserved one formerly owned by LUL, but ultimately destined for the Swanage Railway?

The one the Eastleigh is the LU one, the work being carried out is the reason why the class 20 tour from Wembley Park to Quainton Road has been postponed. The ex LU 4TC is still stored at Midland Railway Butterley.

Not at all. The issue is of the secondary door locking, which is rather functional and detrimental to the heritage appearance of the unit, being disguised by clever application of different paint colous and maintaining existing lines.

Can't quite get my head round this CDL system - how much clearance is there between the bottom of the door and the platform?

  15. I thought the LUL one was in 'fake teak'? The sides of that unit don't look that colour to me...

I know at least one of the ex-LUL 'Swanage TC' vehicles is no longer at Swanwick, as it was being restored at St Leonards and is now in blue/grey.

I think the TC coach that was a St. Leonards was a 5th coach which was in better condition than the equivalent ex-LUL one at Swanwick.

Wouldn't chiltern bubble car be ideal for Wareham services after its finished mainline services

The "fake teak" is being scraped off. See, for example, http://www.carlswatson.com/Trains/G...04/20170411ArlingtonEastleighWorks/index.html . There will be a new livery, but I don't know what it is.

Picture of the 'fake teak' being scraped off http://www.carlswatson.com/Trains/G...hWorks/gleneastleighworks19thjanuary2017.html

That would be 76275 and will replace either 76298 or 76322 in Swanage's 4TC set http://www.4tc.org.uk/unit/index.php/unit413

Some news in the PCRP February minutes (published on Purbeck District Council's website so publicly available):

    https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/med...unity_Rail_Partnership_-_21_February_2017.pdf

    Poin 5 states:

    "Swanage Railway project progress
    1. DMU wheelsets now progressing steadily expected back at Eastleigh by June and DMUs back on the SR by end 2017 for staff training and the 90 day trial next year.
    2. Trial 2016: SR evaluating options to contract the provision of the 60 day trail service. More information will be released when contracts are certain."

So DMU's definitely not available until the end of 2017, but as at February still thinking about contracting out - as nothing more has been published on this it's probably fair to say it's looking like 2018 for Wareham Services.
