Question:Continental Locos

    Some Continental Locos have a driving piston arrangement with steam chest/valve gear on the top, piston below (all quite normal so far) but then there is another chest alongside these. It is the same length but smaller diameter than the other two.
    Can anybody please tell me what this is for or does.

    Thanks - it seems o be something peculiar to Finnish steam locos? Possibly some sort of cylinder lubricator for cold climates?

    I would say they are likly drifting ports, as fitted to Santa Fe 3751 in the link above

    3751 is supposedly going to be having a major trip in May. I understand that the final details are being put together with Burlington Northern Railroad. Some people have already purchased tickets.
