With the permission of the Moderators I propose to start a new thread for contributors in our community to add to as they wish. A general theme, no real rules, other than railways and people in the shot. Perhaps someone may recognise themselves and fill in some details of what they were doing.

How appreciative to show that railways ARE people as much as machine hence a chance to show of the two in unison; looking forward to more examples.

Certainly agree, the character of the railway comes as much from the people that operate it as from the rolling stock and architecture. Just a few here and none of these are staged.

I think this thread is a great idea and allows me the opportunity to say "thank you" to all the men and women involved in our fantastic hobby, both on heritage and main lines. Without you we would have very little to enjoy.

Here are some photos from the East Lancs, Ffestiniog and Great Central Railways

Family friend - the late Fred Williams, who worked from Warrington Dallam most if not all of his career who drove Hardwick on the first day of the 1980 cavalcades at Rainhill.

Fort William driver Ewan McLennan ( apolologies if that's wrong - I should keep better notes ) at Arisaig in 1987. I should have done more to record the original steam men at the Fort.

Nice idea for a thread. These days I find more and more that I get drawn to photos of people, rather than just the normal "3/4" type railway shots.

A few from me around the Bluebell.

Firstly, East Grinstead with a well known Bluebell face! I like this one because it shows the human face of the railway. That's me with our children - photo by my wife.

    IMG_4610.JPG

Then nice photos of me are seemingly in short supply, but here's one I like (me on the left) by a photographer called James Hamilton - I like the naturalism of the shot.
