I have fond memories of him on the BBLS Rail Ale special at the NVR back in the 90s when 60007 was visiting. He had a good time that night. RIP Roger and clear signals.

Another sad loss from the Railway preservation world. I remember seeing him many times at one of the windows of the 60007 support coach with a big grin on his face whilst on ML duty with 60007.
He was on the footplate of 60007 and blew the whistle at this event at Didcot:

    RIP Roger.

Going to be odd seeing 60007 and not have Roger near her side. Even not knowing him personally, just seeing his face made you think of no7.

Very sad loss, condolences to all his friends and family.

this is very sad news, i spent several turns on 60007 when she visited the MHR, and several enjoyable evenings down the pub also, Roger was a very nice guy, and for a very green ,at the time trainee, very understanding, and knowledgeable , he always had a grin on his face and a kind word,
on a trip to the NYMR, i had the misfortune to encounter him, unfortunate because i ended up with a shovel thrown in my hand, and a Southerner vs northerner verbal sparing session on how to properly fire an S15, he will be sorely missed

A craggy character with his love of 60007 being at the heart of everything he did; the A4 Society has lost a valued member, the NYMR has lost a staunch supporter and the heritage world has lost another character. R.I.P.

I can remember several humorous occations with Roger and Todd, the first being , one evening, they had just put SNG to bed, i think it was their first night Down south, because he asked RF, Smiffy and I were was a good place to eat, we were staying over bcause we had firing turns next day, so we took them down the Anchor, and being as they were guests, bought them a drink, to which Roger said, "they boys at Grosmont said you wont like it down south, they dont drink down there " needless to say at 2 in the morning we all staggered up the hill, ok you wouldnt do it now adays, and on a later visit when i was fireman, my driver gave Roger the drivers seat ,Roger turned to me and said, ready to be flogged martin, ? needless to say, i was sat on the firemans seat playing with the injector long before he shut off for hampshire hunt, :)) he said your almost as good as an northener, praise indeed

Very sad news. Every time I came up to the NYMR over the last decade 60007 would be out of service and he'd be working on her. I briefly had a chat with him the last time a few years ago and he was a fountain of knowledge about the locomotive and its class. Lovely gent, my sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Amazing turn out for Roger's funeral yesterday, the crematorium was full and standing, with people out the door, unable to get in.

I had no idea about Roger's love of music, and that he used to be, among other things, secretary of Redcar Jazz Club. But there it is, fourth paragraph down, and Roger's claim to fame - introducing David Coverdale to Deep Purple! http://www.redcarjazzclub.com/about.html
