    That's debatable so let's not!

Just watched the Riviera through Dawlish. At least they seem to be allowing show pony steam on the front. Class 47 doing all the work tucked inside, with another Class 47 on the rear!!

It would appear the Facebook post shared earlier by @sgthompson was suggesting that the ban of "Steam not being allowed on Network Rail full stop" was being lifted, but the part of steam not working under its own power remains

Sorry but that's not correct. Britannia was working well through Dawlish with the crews giving nice long blasts of the whistle. <BJ>

Tangmere was working on Shap and was blowing off but the 47 was pushing heavily.

The Royal Duchy is running today as 6233 plus 9 coaches. The diesel is at the rear.

This is probably due to lower temperatures and overnight rain. <BJ>

Tickets for Saturday's CME in mailbox. 35018+POB+11. No mention of diesel assistance so hopefully a proper steam day out.

Picked up a Waverley (the paddle steamer not the tour) brochure in town yesterday.
Ironically for those on the Swanage Belle it is a day the Waverley comes to Swanage, but it will sail about 30 minutes before the tour will arrive and get back about the time the tour will leave, at least based on previous runnings.

This won't be the case with tomorrow's Kentish Belle. A diesel was always going to be needed anyway to turn the train on the Sittingbourne triangle but although the RTC website still talks about a "day trip by steam train", at best I would guess 45596 is likely to be a "show pony " with a second class 47 coupled behind the tender. It is somewhat cooler down here in the South East, but we haven't had any decent rain for ages, so Network Rail looks unlikely to allow a
in Kent. Still, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong.

Here are the timings if anyone is interested:-

Unlike the corresponding run last year, which ran in both directions via Maidstone East, the return journey tomorrow runs via Tonbridge and Hildenborough

Kentish Belle has only one 47 in the consist, at the rear as expected for turning at Sittingbourne.

However the BLS support crew have said they expect significant diesel assistance throughout the day.

...Well, I 'm happy to have been proved wrong! Not what I was expecting.

Also, I'm pleased for the Bahamas Loco Society that this wasn't turned into a diesel only trip as 45596 has already lost its planned trains with SD due to the takeover by LSL and the next Dorset Coast Express (18th August) probably isn't going to run as it's a strike day.

Definitely the case. Went through Bickley with the safety valve blowing off and the diesel on full power.

Yes, a place where the fire hazard is a real problem....not. But, of course, that is not what it is all about.,

Do have to sympathise the fireman though. Obviously had brought up the pressure for the climb from Bromley and his efforts were blown off into the atmosphere.

I'm surprised NR didn't force a diesel tucked in behind as normally the "lead loco" should do most of the work, but for the sake of those getting pictures today, I'm glad they didn't and hope it's still an enjoyable day for the paying passengers.

The Victoria exit would have demanded a diesel to bank anyway so keeping it on the back is probably the best compromise and then there is the shunt move.
