There is quite a gap between doing the minimum and thrashing as you describe it.

I wouldn't approve of the latter but if they are implying that they want to mollycoddle the locomotive and allow it to be pushed around at a whim then they probably should donate it to a heritage line somewhere.

It was a pleasure to wait for 60007 yesterday afternoon at Waterside on the P&DSR. Not only was 75014 hauling the service train but the area was hosting the Torbay Air Show with demonstrations by Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster aircraft plus the Red Arrows. Sir Nigel passed at approx 5pm and whistled out to the many folk who were eagerly awaiting the train. The loco and train looked immaculate as it passed in the evening sunlight. Well done to all concerned. <BJ>

Here's my footage of 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley exploding with steam out of Kingswear on the return journey back with The English Riviera Express yesterday. The safety valves were roaring, the cylinder drain taps opening plus some great chuffing and whistling. Out of a possible four that I filmed, this was by a country mile the best shot of the day, and deserves to be a solo piece. I hope you enjoy the video.

Knowing the fireman on the P&DSR who was firing the A4 yesterday he was in his words "Bricking it" Safety valves lifting reading for the climb , I think he did alright

Not sure quite what to make of the support coach guards door being open though

Any thoughts on the reason for opening the drain cocks a little while after starting?

Edit: I've now read the suggested reason in the video description, but does that make sense?
